After Rangers first game with Barcelona in the Champions League, the Spanish press dubbed him "the white Cafu"

I like chimbonda. I think his good enough to start for us. We really need 2 experienced central defenders

I'm glad this deal didn't go through. I am still very worried though, the fact that we were prepared to pay so much for someone who isn't better than chimbonda smacks of desperation. Was it really a Ramos decision to buy this player? I don't know.

We could find ourselves becoming the Newcastle of London if we aren't careful.

Tottenham's bid for the player shows just how much their sporting director, Damien Comolli, is pulling the strings at Spurs. Hutton is unlikely to have been on the radar of the manager, Juande Ramos, who was keener on Daniel Alves, right-back at his former club, Seville.

I find myself agreeing with the bit in bold.

But what is Ramos going to do about Alves?? Its not like Spurs are going to pony up 20 million for Alves like Chelski would so Hutton might be a good alternative that Ramos has seen because of European footy this year, especially as Rangers are moving to UEFA Cup and Ramos might have scouted them out in preparation that we might play them?? Just because Hutton isn't Spanish doesn't mean Ramos would be against or have no say in the move.

Ramos is surely going to get some say in who comes here with the amount of money he is making at the club so to say Commoli is pulling all the strings just doesn't make sense to me.

I am a bit tired of Comolli being blamed for any transfer activity that see "less". Of course Comolli too would prefer Alves over Hutton. And he would have loved Levy to to tell him Spurs got 25-26m for him to buy Alves. If Alves would take Spurs over the likes of Chelski and Real while earing half of he could earn there.

the longer this continues the bigger laughing stock we become.

But if no one from the club has said anything about it, and no one really knows what's going on, what are they actually laughing at?

Or say everything is true and we've put in a bid which he's thinking over, its only normal football business.

I would imagine the scenario to be something like our scouting network has understood there to be serious interest in Hutton, quite probably from his agent. We would know what to bid in order to get to the feeding table but most likely have not had time to discuss the possibilities with the player first.

So we wack a bid in to get first dibs and who knows the consequences?? The "other club", meanwhile, given its status, sits in the background, having registered its interest but not having yet bid.

The player knows this and now finds he has a decision to make.

So he stalls on said decision, hoping like fuck that the "other club" will come to the party some time soon to bale him out.

I reckon Spurs are a back up choice and may be being used to force asnother club's hand. The only problem with that it that Hutton's agent is being canny and put the ball back in the club's court.

Only conjecture, but probably fairly accurate.

As some of you may already know, I work for a Scottish newspaper. From what I have heard, Hutton's agent is a complete amateur and apparently he is out of his depth having only worked on minor deals in the past. He is currently taking advice on how best to proceed from more experienced agents in Scotland, hence the scrambled phone call to Sky Sports, so as not to burn any bridges.

For what it's worth, our chief football writer is quite close to Walter Smith and believes Hutton will end up at Spurs because if Yanited truly wanted Hutton then Ferguson would have been straight on the phone to his old mate the minute he got wind of our offer. That hasn't happened.
