Tottenham keeping tabs on Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as back-up option for No.1 Hugo Lloris

Current No.2 Michel Vorm’s contract expires this summer and he has been a target for several clubs

Tottenham are watching developments on Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy.

McCarthy, 28, has attracted a host of admiring glances after his impressive end to the season as he ousted Fraser Forster as the club’s No1 and helped Southampton stay up.

That has alerted Tottenham as their current No2 Michel Vorm’s contract expires this summer and he has been a target for several clubs as he considers his options.

McCarthy has one year left on his contract at Southampton and would be strong competition and back up for Hugo Lloris.

Wolves, Arsenal and Liverpool have also been checking on McCarthy who has been called up by England in the past.

He's a decent keeper, not sure why Saints would sell him though? He's ahead of Forster in the pecking order now.

Shirley it’s got Liverpool written all over it, what with their need for a back up keeper and their feeder club relationship with the saints....

He's a good keeper and to replace Vorm with him means that he takes a homegrown slot and frees up a space if we want to add another foreign outfield player. Makes a lot of sense.

I'd take Forster, never seen this guy play.

I'd prefer keeping Vorm in all honesty, he's very reliable.
