Although he may also have learnt from that blunder mate and now he could be reluctant to cave

“We had people speaking all night with Daniel Levy,” said Aulas, a former president of the G14 group of elite clubs. “He talks a lot and goes back on what we’ve agreed in writing. Agreements have not at all been respected.

The first negotiation was at the start of the window, about a month and a half ago, through an intermediary who was a French lawyer who lives in Lyon. And then nothing for about a month and a half. The negotiation then picked up again about a week ago.

We had email exchanges which have been contradicted, so that’s made it very complicated. It’s difficult. The Tottenham board’s theory is to explain that the economic market is very hard and so we have to get used to renegotiating.

It’s been very, very difficult. I’ve got 25 years of experience as a president of a club and it’s our 16th participation in a European competition in a row. But this is very rare in the football world. The negotiation with the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have ever had to undergo in these 25 years.

Sounds promising for future transfer business

Trust me mate, I have no bloody idea & was just basing my response upon what people have said on here, and the fact that the fella who owns his club seems to believe he'd cost Bale money

Dudes, of course we have the money, or at least will have. Let's not forget that we have a cut a profit on all transfer business in the last 10 years (or however long it's been).

We clearly need to sell some players but I don't believe for a second that we couldn't do this deal if we really want the player. To me it's more of a question as to whether we want him & can we beat other teams to him, rather than can we afford him.

Levy: "So, £25m for Hugo yeah?"

Lyon President: "Okay yeah"

*Three days pass*

Levy: "Alright Mr Lyon President, I've sent that 40 quid I owed you for Hugo by carrier mosquito."

Lyon President: "Are you mad?! We agreed £25m!"

Levy: "Yeah but my accountancy team valued the mosquito at £24999960 so lets call it a cash + player swap deal and you can keep the carrier mosquito."

which levys tactics didnt go down very well wtih the Lyon chairmen if memory serves me right

To be fair....if there ever was a match up between chairmen that looked destined to be a difficult negotiation it is Levy and Aulas. We may all groan at the thought of Levy negotiating with Kenwright or Lerner or Huw Jenkins...but this, this is the type of negotiation that would make any of those situations look positively easy....

Levy and Aulas as cut from the same cloth and quite a bit of what Levy has done with Spurs mirrors what Lyon have done as a club. Lyon are held up as the golden child of the FFP/Soccernomics/moneyball mentality. OL don't spend big on players, they use a transfer committee, they have a solid youth setup, they buy players when they are cheap and sell when they are expensive, they are the smaller club that punches above it's weight in a financial world against the likes of PSG, Monaco and (to an extent) Marseilles. They are set up to do the same thing in France as Spurs want to do in England, make the CL without breaking the bank.

So the chances of Levy and Aulas having anything close to resembling an easy negotiation were more or less dead when the conversation began. Aulas wants to get the absolute maximum amount of money for every player he has (and the way OL is set up EVERY player is available for the right price) on the other hand Levy is going to try and get a player for the absolute minimum amount he can.

Add into the fact that Aulas is known to be a bit of an ass and the negotiation between the two sides was going to be a fucking nightmare regardless. It is the competition of two clubs that are meant to do the same thing so a negotiation between the two is like negotiating in a mirror.

I would love Lacazette, i think he is exactly the type of striker that could have a great impact with the squad....i just don't like the chances of Levy and Aulas striking a deal within the month of January.

We are investing in other things. Joe Lewis had to put in £40-50m to clear our debt the summer before last. Since then we have agreed a £50m deal for preperation works for the new stadium let alone the costs of building the Sainsbuy/College or the fact that we will still have to pay off Archway Steel and build a new stadium.

Sorry Dude.

Absurd. Everyone knows that the stadium build will be done for free & we can easily splash £80mil on a player now, then still have money to build a stadium AND still be able to improve the squad when the stadium is complete. Bloody hell, we all saw Arseanal continue to spend countless millions of pounds after they built their stadium, and they didn't at all practically spend fuck all for a decade, despite having the luxury of the CL money that we don't get.

I thought you had more sense than that, Lilbaz

My bad. And the £50m spent on the training ground and academy was a waste. We only had 6 academy players in our squad the other week, Livermoore and Caulker were useless so we had to sell them for peanuts.

He works hard off the ball, can definitely play as a wide striker too, and even though I'm not a fan of 442, he is the explosive poacher type that comes alive inside the box, would also be bale to feed off Kane.

I dont think anyone is suggesting for a second that we could splash £80 million but by the same token, just because Arsenal couldn't manage between their stadium budget and maintaining a transfer budget, doesn't mean we will be the same.

Quite frankly, we always need to be in a position to improve the squad. My expectation is that funds for buying players will come from selling what we currently have, not sure there's anything "absurd" about that, new stadium or not.

Mate, the "Absurd" part was nothing but a joke shared with Lilbaz, so I apologise if you took it the wrong way (y).

We are looking at what appears to be a minimum £400mil development. We have a training complex that cost some £40mil to complete, and we're currently seeking planning permission to improve that further, via building a 45 room "Player Lodge" - http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...-multimillion-pound-player-lodge-9897384.html .

These things don't pay for themselves. I fully understand your point, but I can almost guarantee that you'd be the first on here bemoaning our inability to continue to improve upon the squad, should we spend X Millions of pounds now & not have essential funds once the stadium is completed because we blew our load too quickly. What's the point in building a World Class training complex & Stadium if we're not going to do all we can to ensure we have the finance in place to be able to take full advantage of them, via still being able to invest significant funds into squad improvements?

I'm not saying you're wrong, we may well have the money/funds you're suggesting we have, but I, personally, can fully understand the caution that's seemingly being applied by those who control the purse strings, and I applaud it.

Said this time and time again, but for our club the art of transfers is finding these players before they have breakout seasons. It's probably too late for this guy now, the Citehs and Chelseas of this world are already circling.
