Great for his own development, which is of course important. I thought he looked great of in the friendlies. Interested as to who our third keeper is now with Gazzaniga having gone too.

Very random!

Newly promoted side who haven't been in the top flight since 1997. Smack bang in the middle of Sweden surrounded mostly by forests and lakes.

Could be a nice place to knucke down and develop as a player, hope it goes well for him.

Two hours down the road from me (45 mins from the in-laws) it’s a beautiful area. But then I’m also surrounded by trees, trees and more trees. (We had a forest fire here a couple of years back that was the size of greater London...)

Good move, Sweden seems to be a destination for young keepers of late.

Leaves us without a 3rd choice though doesn't it?

Alfie doesn't seem to make the bench at the moment making this move even more odd

Maybe a little soon but given the minutes he was playing in pre-season you would have thought he would at least be ready for the number 2 role

Whiteman has been shaky and outright poor in most of the games so far in Sweden. Degerfors has a poor defense aswell but Alfie has been poor. Maybe just a bad fit for him, thought he looked quite talented in pre-season.

Allsvenskan is now finished, Degerfors won their last two matches to finish just above the relegation places. Whiteman started every match but the final one and kept one clean sheet.

What is the inside on Whiteman? Been part of the first team for 5 or 6 seasons but never really looks like he is close to even the number 2 with the like of vorm, gazza, gollini, hart, forster all being brought in during that time. Seems a long time to hold on to someone unless they think there is something there. Loaned out to Sweden doesnt seem to tally with that either. Anyone got any ideas?

I don't have the inside but I suspect beneficial loan deals for young keepers are hard to come by. No point sending him to a Championship or League 1 side if he is going to sit on the bench, which is probably why slightly unorthodox loans happen more frequently for keepers. For example. Brandon Austin who is the other young keeper on the fringes has had two spells- one in Denmark and one in the States.

I would also hazard a guess that young English keepers are kept around as they don't take up a squad place in a position where really the 3rd choice is only ever a name on a list of players.

I do some work at a local non league side and we had Watford's U18 keeper on loan for a season and whilst it was a huge step down for him in terms of levels, the benefits were that he was playing week in week out against men thus getting a taste of competitive football that academy games couldn't provide.

Dante Baptiste at Farnborough? He was quality and played a huge part in our promotion but Jack Turner was a great permanent replacement!

Do we give someone like Whiteman a chance against Portsmouth?

Hopefully Forster is in against Fulham and we can get Lloris away from the pich for a bit to sort himself out
