Isn't he ranked as the Number 1 striker in the world by FIFA? What's that all about?

I'm not sure, but I think he had the best stats in the world last year or something like that. But he played in a poor league, so it's not really comparable.

He started brightly, but has completely fade away. And his attitude stinks so it's a BIG NO from me!!!

I've got this feeling that a Keane - Zaki duo could do well as a poor mans Tevez - Rooney. Zaki's still the same player that dominated the league the first month of the season. If anything he's a better target now that some clubs might be turned off making a move, and perhaps as much as £10m have been shaved off his transfer fee.
I'm confident in Redknapp making the right call whether Zaki is the one for us. He'll know better what attitude the player has.

I do believe for sure that we must sell and replace one of our strikers this summer though. As we're missing someone with a physical presence up front.
Selling Bent for £9m, and buying Zaki at £5-6m would be a good upgrade if possible.
I don't see Bent having a long term future with us after the signing of Defoe.

If not Zaki, then Dzeko from Wolfsburg should be another possible target for us

Just a thought from the Middle East..

Arab players, whoever they are, get an incredible amount of coverage here, especially if playing abroad. There is even a 4 page poster of Zaki up in my office right behind me (alongside loads of Man City posters!). This may be why the likes of Zaki and Mido came with a tag of having an ego - back in the Arab world, they are treated as heroes, but in the Premiership they maybe wonder why they're not given that adulation.

Also, Tottenham (and to a lesser extent, Chelsea) aren't really covered in the media, nor are they supported widely, as there is a perception out here that they are Jewish clubs. We get almost every game on TV here in the UAE - but Spurs beating Chelsea wasn't even covered out here on the main sports channels, nor was it really mentioned on the sports round-up shows. Having an Arab player up front would change this more or less instantly - people tend to support players rather than have long-term affinities to clubs.

The Premiership is now a global business & Levy is a man with his eye firmly on the club's bottom line. I think Zaki is a slight upgrade on Bent in playing terms, but in global marketing terms, it is a massive one for coverage, TV money and shirt sales.

(As a footnote - Yasser Al Qahtani tried to engineer a move from a Saudi club to Man City but SGE said he wasn't good enough for the premiership.. He is probably the biggest name in Arab football here.. He would have led to Man City mania in Saudi and across the GCC/Arab world. But with their money, maybe they didn't need it.)

The problem is, Zaki is in no way an upgrade on Bent if he only shows up once every five games no matter how awesome he is in that one game. If he's not even good enough for Wigan, who aren't exactly blessed in striking options atm, he shouldn't get near our side unless his attitude massively improves. We can't sacrifice our performances just for greater publicity (why not find some young Chinese player then, in China we'd obsessively track his every movement esp if he looks remotely promising for our NT - though Man Utd tried that route but failed lol). We could get a Mideast sponsor for our shirts and/or stadium, which could help somewhat but I doubt if that would shake off our Jewish rep.

That said, I think that there are plenty of undiscovered or underrated Arab players out there (which makes it a better PR-promoting footballing option than China - i don't think you could find a single PL-level player out of 0.65 billion guys here ;_;) so I'd like us to go Wigan's route and scout them in their native leagues rather than from the ones available in the PL like Mido and Zaki.

I think some of you tend to forget Harry's magic of getting the best out of players (although thats yet to see with Bentley) so I guess its always going to be the case that we get linked with these players Adriano/Zaki might even bring back Mido!!
The press look at what teams and make up these stories and if you look back we were and still are linked with every player who wants to play inthe EPL but if Harry thinks he can do it then I must trust him besides anything I say aint going to make a blind bit if difference anyway

I don't think Harry is good at getting the best out of players with poor diva-type attitudes, I think his magic works best with conscientious or shyer types who tend to have low confidence. If even Mourinho, who imo is the best manager with divas and big egos like most of the Chelsea squad, can't get Adriano to play well then Harry most likely won't be able to.

Ummm, I watched the game from my place in Dubai. Perhaps you don't have the full show sports package or you went to the wrong pub.

And Chelsea is very widely covered...there is even a Chelsea fans pub in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi just sucks anyway

Tottenham line-up cut price move for bad boy Amr Zaki

By Alan Nixon 7/04/2009

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is lining up a surprise cut-price move for Egyptian bad boy Amr Zaki - despite his problems with Wigan.
Redknapp wants to thrash out a cheap deal with striker Zaki's club Zamalek, then take him on in the next window at the end of his up-and-down debut campaign in the Premier League.
Zaki's explosive start at Wigan had Redknapp drooling, and he thinks the time is right to pounce after the player fell out with boss Steve Bruce over his shocking timekeeping.

Redknapp reckons he can 'pinch' Zaki from the Egyptian club which loaned him to Wigan, and he will try to agree a fee of £5million or pay a hefty rental fee for a year.
Zaki has no chance of staying at Wigan after Bruce labelled him the "most unprofessional player I have ever worked with".
Spurs will definitely be in the market for a new striker this summer after Darren Bent is sold. Fraizer Campbell will return to Manchester United, while Redknapp is not convinced by Roman Pavlyuchenko.

mattalla - what package do you have? Might have been on a South African channel! Spurs are on there a lot, Chelsea less so than Man U, Liverpool or Arsenal.

Oh and I live in Dubai now too..

ya, what i meant was that getting a chinese player is the worst idea ever in terms of actual performances  and you have to give them some game time to actually spark some interest unless you happen to be Taarabt Eek

but i think there are more players in the mideast leagues along with eastern Europe who could potentially do well in the PL, wouldn't mind turning our attention there
