Everyone knows what a great servant Darren Anderton was to Tottenham Hotspur over all those years so it was good to hear him talking about the club and Euro 96 etc on the Spurs Show Live Podcast recently. Despite getting strong offers from Man Utd and Liverpool he still stayed faithful to Spurs.

Sad the way it ended for him at Spurs like so many greats but hopefully the club will get a testimonial organised some day!

For those that missed it:

Anyway...the real reason for starting this post was to share this. I'm in Mexico at the moment on holiday, casually walking through the back streets in a tiny town my girlfriend and I spot a little antique shop so we go in and see all the usual stuff, old coins, clocks etc then on the mantle piece I spot a familiar face coated in a fine layer of dust...20 pesos well spent.

As a quick translation, Star of the Future Darren Anderton. It compares him to English favourite Chris Waddle. In 1993 he helped Spurs to an FA Cup Semi Final and a top 10 league finish.

He can pass out of defense easily and together with Nick Barmby he represents a brilliant future for Spurs and England.

But best of all...his physique is extremely tall and thin but strong. :)

Shame he and England never made it to USA 94.

Nice one mate. I'm sure I have told this story before but I met him in a club in Bournemouth about 8 year ago......well I say met him, what basically happened is I saw him at the bar, ran back to my mates going "ohmagodohmagodohmagod that's Darren Anderton" and then after I finally plucked up the courage to go talk to him I walked up to him and said "I fucking love you".

He smiled and left.

Did he pull a hamstring while walking away?

One of my favorite goals scored by Anderton, I just love the sound of the ping as the ball hits each post.

I still remember being excited about us signing Anderton from Portsmouth for big money (probably about £2m at the time). His link-up play with Teddy (especially from corners) was legendary.

I did hear a story about him being a bit of an arrogant cash-waving prick once, but it's hard to know whether it has any basis in reality. Probably just broke his wrist when paying for a drink.

Always remember his goal in the cup against Leeds too although his was slightly outdone by Ginola's. If I remember that was also the game when Ginola took on half leads defence and cracked it against the post.

Lest we forget that Mr Anderton also has a world cup finals goal to his name. Quality player.

Edit: found Ginola's shot of the post.

God that reminds me just how selfish he was, number of times I'd be screaming at the TV/radio for him to just pass the ball.

Anderton was one of my all time favourites though I loved our famous five front line under Ardiles

He was similar to Bale but without the explosive acceleration.

Can blame the comical Spurs medical staff for that, they ruined his career by all accounts.
