I always enjoy the UEFA matches more than CL, it just seems that the football is more exciting for whatever reason--plus you get to see sides from different places, not the same old clubs (Go on Fenerbache [sp]!).

Anyway, watching Zenit v. Leverkusen--even at 1 a piece but it is a good wide open match and Arshavin's opening goal was a beauty: took advantage of some sloppy defending, streaked down the left and beat Adler on the near post. Weren't we linked with him?--I've only seen him play three times now, but he has scored an excellent goal each time. I am now a believer. Let's get him, shall we? No doubt Big Daddy Roman is snooping around...:shifty:

Too busy rearranging my humble abode into something more open-plan. I have so much space I am wasting simply due to the layout of this place, decided to reorganise this afternoon. So that's what I've been doing!

Arshavin just set up another amazing goal--that's a goal and an assist. He is single-handedly destroying the Leverkusen defense.

Zenit are playing some stunning football. Arshavin definitely looks interesting. A bit of Petrov about him but with age on his side...

They sure are! 4-1 away against a side that most thought would challenge for the cup. Arshavin has got a lot of pace and power on the ball and great delivery, seems like the kind of player that Wendy likes. Plus, he's left-footed and he can score goals from the mid-field. Good stuff...

I don't really know why. We disposed of them without undue difficulty last year, and it might easily have been a three-goal margin if we'd made more of our chances. I've watched a fair bit of German footy this season and the overall standard of the Bundesliga isn't that great, especially when you think of how strong it once used to be.

Zenit are the real dark horses. They nearly cocked it up against Marseille, but any side that puts Villareal out has to be taken seriously.

I'm going on what I've read, I haven't been following German football too closely as of late--we don't get it here in the States, at least not on the channel we have (Fox "Sawker" Channel :)). Was a pretty impressive win regardless, Arshavin (who bailed Zenit out against Marseille) put on a show.

Has Adler been at fault? Here I am saying we need to buy him, stat, and he lets in 4 at home. We don't need to purchase anyone to accomplish that feat.

He was really only at fault for one goal--the third, I believe...it was Anuikov (a CB) that scored it from outside the box and Adler completely misjudged it. More a case of Zenit's attackers, Arshavin in particular, carving up the Leverkusen defense who had nothing to answer Zenit's pace and power.

Munich are dominating Getafe so far, Toni scored off a corner in the first; Getafe are starting to open thing up a bit, though...

Worringly, in view of the fact that Kameni's name gets mentioned more often than any other potential Robbo replacement, Espanyol have been letting in more than we have over the past few games.

Anyone reading 606?

I think Football should take the Radiohead approach.fans should be let in for free and at the end of matches should be free to pay whatever they think the match entertainment value was worth.

We'd be fucking poor after a couple of trips to the Lane!

And nicked a last-minute equaliser.

I thought Getafe were the toughest side in our group, and one of the competition's dark horses, but it was a matter of us losing to them rather than them beating us. By then the whole team was totally demoralised.

In theory, Bayern look terrifically impressive, but they seem seriously dependent on Ribéry, in the Bundesliga and in Europe. They've had some spectacular wins in the UEFA, but also made a real meal of games against some seriously moderate opposition—Bolton, Braga, Crvena Zvezda and Belenenses. I think we could have taken them, and I do wonder how they'll fare in the CL. It's definitely not the 'Oh my God! We've drawn Bayern! Shall we just phone in the result?' that it was once upon a time. But once upon a time, drawing any German side was bad news.

Watching it all today simply brought back my unrealistic and horrible dreams of a Spurs midfield of Daniel Carvalho Joao Moutinho Miguel Veloso and a rejuvinated Aaron Lennon... That'll be £60m please sir... damn...

Rangers did brilliantly to tough it out against a far superior technical team. How David Weir keeps going I'll never know and it's amazing how much better Barry Ferguson looks in a Rangers shirt that he ever did during his spell in England.

Bayern just couldn't convert, they could hold the ball up in attack for ages but when it came down to it they lacked that spark required to put the ball in the net, add to that some decent defending by Getafe. It seemed to me like most of their attacks fizzled--lot of build up but not much happened.

Fair play to Rangers for holding Sporting, but I doubt they will be able to go to Lisbon and get a win. But maybe...It always seems to me that Scottish sides are brilliant against anyone when they play in Scotland, but anywhere else and they seem to struggle.
