I think Portsmouth pose a real threat on us

They seem likely to sign Bridge and Wright-phillips from the chavs. I think with those 2 signings they will finish above Everton, Villa and Man City. However do you think they could overtake us this season?

They could line up as
JAMES
JOHNSON CAMPBELL DISTAN BRIDGE
WRIGHT-PHILLIPS DIARRA MUNTARI KRANJER
DEFOE CROUCH

That is a very good line up and 7 english players!!

Yeah, but on the downside for them, they have 7 English players.

I think you may find Portsmouth got 11 points more than us last season, while we won the Carling Cup they won the FA Cup.

So I think they might have already done it ?

We would be stupid to not think that we are in direct competition with Pompey this year.

Pompey
Everton
Aston Villa
Us

Are the most likely candidates battling it out for a Euro spot this year.

Apart from diarra there isnt a player i would want in the spurs starting 11. I also think we have more depth in the squad. I think we will finish above them by quite a few points.

Defoe? I'd have him back in a flash, but you said starting, so play on I guess.

Yeah they definetly look like their going to be right up there this year. Redknapp buys very well.

I'm worried about having to listen to that plonker ringing his bastard bell for 90 mins when they visit WHL...

I also agree that they're in the group of Uefa challengers referred to above - but I'd like to think that we'll be competing with four different teams for a spot in a different European competition (no, not the Intertoto)

I think it depends how they do in the cups. Last season they may well have finished 5th had they not got to the FA Cup final.

Wayne Bridge has signed a new contract at Chelsea, so they wont be buying him.

But yeah, I think they will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Definitely a threat. Defoe and Crouch should be a really dangerous pairing and they look like they'll be a stronger outfit than last year.

they have plenty of goals in them, but for me Campbells legs have gone so i can see them struggling a little at the back.

So if Campbell mysteriously gets his legs broken over the summer, we all know which way to look... :-|

 @ the people who want Defoe back.

The only people who should be worried about Portsmouth are Portsmouth fans.

Two things: lack of pace now at centre-half (we've exposed this before); and the lack of depth. I've said it so many times, I swear I'll do a 'Michael Douglas in Falling Down' if it continues, but the 'First XI' is bullshit, catshit, horseshit, pigshit, and AlbertthebutlerfromBatmanshit.

Unless their substitutes are good enough to finish top 8 on their own (note, ours are, theirs aint) they will have to be lucky as fuck to finish above us.

In more direct response to the question:

A friend of mine has a saying (he's from Southampton): "When you go to Portsmouth, you're always going to get stabbed with something pointy and unpleasant. And whatever it is, you ain't gonna like it."

So in that respect, yes, there should be plenty of people worried about Portsmouth.
