I certainly wouldn't base a club's size on the amount of Facebook likes. Nothing to stop the same people liking every club and skewing the figures.

Especially after the last two seasons. How many likes do we get for missing out on cl?

Seeing who's topping the list, I guess money might not buy you instant success, but will buy you "likes"!

it's a decent metric of our global position. Doesn't surprise me that we not up there. It's been a while since we were globally relevant.

It's funny though that Gareth Bale fan page has close to 1.7m likes.

Reminds me of when I went on holiday to Brazil.

Hardly anyone had heard of Tottenham, even though Gomes played for us.

Only teams they knew were those in the Champions League.

Whilst the facebook stat offers something in terms of our visibility as a brand and club it's not really a metric i'd use to validate our position in the footballing world.

I think there's an optimist in most Spurs fans (there has to be!) and i think we all acknowledge the leaps forward we've made in the last decade. I still think we're outside of the top table at this stage, whilst i think we're a side who are capable of ruffling a few feathers up there on occasion, we're still a stadium and several CL qualifications away from considering ourselves right up there.

But with that in mind, i think we're doing pretty well when compared to clubs who do have those resources, we're a lot closer than we should be and that's in a big part thanks to DL. Long may our progress continue.

I assume you don't have to be a fan to click the like button? There are probably loads on neutrals who like multiple teams. That said, we're a big club but not one of the elite.

Levy thinks we are but doesn't act like it

Personally i have us in the 2nd Tier of European football and that Deloitte list shows that, we are still a long way behind Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich who I would say are the top 5 clubs in Europe right now - Man City, Arsenal and Milan we are closer to.

I think social media is a very decent metric for measuring our brand reach globally. I would bet that name "Bale" is better known than "Tottenham Hotspur" or anyother name by which the club is known (except "spurs" as that coincides with another team of course) - of course it's a trend, but we dismiss it at our peril - our ability to find rough gems, shirt sales, global sponsorship deals etc are all affected.

This is a very good example of why selling a global asset like Bale is bad. It's bad on the pitch, it's bad off it. BAD

That's a really good point but then again what are we actively doing to enhance our brand globally through him?
Would he even want us to do it because he isn't really the kind of person who craves the spotlight?

Well I think it's a good example of a player doing his talking on the pitch. I'm pretty sure the club would rather he kept a lower profile. The issue isn't what we do with him off the pitch, its whether we can get a picture of him, e.g. lifting a trophy, socring against Barca, Real, Munich., for the world to see, what he does on it.
