My initial thought when Harry became our manager was that he was primarily bought in to save us from relegation and not much else. Whats heightened these thoughts is the fact that when he joined we were not made aware of the length of the contract he had signed with the club, and to this day, I still dont know.

Is that the biggest indicator that he is a short term fix or did I just fail to read a piece of important information somewhere around the time of his appointment

Anyone..

Unfortunately with managers under Daniel Levy, contract length means nothing.

As soon as his face doesn't fit or the going gets tough, he'll follow Martin Jol, Chris Hughton and Juande Ramos out the door.

When Jol was our manager, it was a "5 year plan", when Ramos became manager it was a "4 year contract" getting paid amongst the highest salaries out their...

When Harry became manager nothing was mentioned. Gotta be something in it

I think I read somewhere that Harry's contract is until 2011; he turned down a 5-year contract for a 3-year one, so he is definitely not planning to stay after 2011.

no idea no, but i think it is unlikely he would have left portsmouth for A 6 month gig at Spurs

I don't think that's necessarily the case. Maybe Harry didn't want to commit himself long-term for a whole range of reasons. If things go well here for him, who knows, perhaps he would choose to stay longer? I think Harry would continue managing until about 70, which is eight years from now (I think I heard that Harry is 62). I hope that he succeeds and stays all that time with us!

Harry said that, he thought Portsmouth is the last club for him, and now he is thinking the same, and then he has big long term plans for the club and the fans need to be patient 'as he can leave you in top 4' ... so i'm sure he is thinking about retirement and that's why he took the job now.

I'm not surprised or concerned about this. He was brought in to get us to avoid relegation. It was never going to be a long contract because of his age and the fact he's been in management for decades now.

My thinking is that the fact that no contract length has been mentioned may suggest he might just be doing a avoid relegation job, before we get shot of him and find another manager to "take us to the next level".

I dont care if his contract length is 2 years with the possibility of a increase, or 5 years. Im concerned that the deal we struck with harry was never announced. Makes it seem a little bit fishy..

I vaguely remember three years as the length from somewhere.

I doubt we would have paid Portsmouth 5mill in compensation for him only to give him a 1 or 2 year deal

Interesting, I also saw no official club line on his contract length. Worth keeping an eye on I guess, providing we do stay up and if Harry is only short term to keep us up hence the big bonus for doing so, keep an eye on Mourinho, we know Levy wanted him after he resigned from Chelsea and it was only Abramovich that stopped him joining us with his big payoff, he's already said he's coming back to the premiership ( probably Man City) but you never know.
