The line before the one you're citing says a player is penalised by "clearly attempting to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent"

The Arsenal player challenges for the header - 'clearly attempting to play a ball' - which means Wimmer has to as well. It was offside by the written law.

I'm not sure the player who is challenging next to Wimmer is actually offside, Dier might be playing him on. It's the other 2 that were clearly offside but how was Wimmer to know that? The rule needs looking at really.

The league table is slightly deceptive at the moment. We've played Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester and not given any points away to them. If we keep up that sort of record against the challengers, we'll be in the title mix at the end of the season.
I've been thinking about this while watching MOTD2. Liverpool and Chelsea look good, yes.

But at the end of the day we've not dropped any points against our title rivals, and the rest of our results are

Won 5. Drawn 2.

If we keep up that form against the rest of the league, and keep drawing against our rivals, we might just win the league.

Just got to make it count by beating the likes of West Brom and Bournemouth, which is what we're not doing.

Yup, we can afford to have the occasional off day against teams like that, but not too many.

Let's say we've got 6 title rivals. If we draw all our games against them (like we have so far) we'll pick up 12 points.

That leaves 26 games. If we win 5 out of 7 of them, we'll pick up roughly 63 points.

That'd be 75 in total. So we'd probably need a few extra wins from somewhere.

Looked at in this way, our current form is almost identical to last season's - slightly better, in fact.

Yegods! Koscielny challenges for the ball, he was onside.
Interestingly enough, Shearer has just basically said word for word what I have been staying here all along. The law is wrong, not the decision.

That'll be us in a couple of years, Rodney...

That's the fear isn't it. Don't think we'll ever become as soulless as them, not least because we've not been fed a diet of success for years and grown bored of it like they have.

The Arsenal player challenges for the header - 'clearly attempting to play a ball' - which means Wimmer has to as well. It was offside by the written law.

Of the three ArseAnal players ahead of Wimmer running into the box, two were offside when the ball was played, the third, Koscielny, wasn't. So he could legitimately challenge for the ball without it being an infringement.

It's a clear case where the FA have tried to cover bases by offering examples of where a player would be offside and interfering with play, in order for the rule change to function. Unfortunately, this is a situation they appear not to have considered. Just by being where they were, the offside players put Wimmer in a position he could not afford to leave the ball. So, without making any motion to play the ball, they were interfering with play. There's just no provision for this in the rule-book as it stands. The book is therefore clearly lacking have been ruled offside.

It also means you can bet your bottom fecking dollar that if they do amend the rule-book to cover for this, the first team to suffer from the amendment will bluddy well be us :(

Found this bit of analysis on F365 interesting:
* Finally, one interesting thing about this Tottenham side is just how effectively they share around the workload. It’s a little thing, but the gap between the Tottenham player with the most touches (Dier – 76) and the player with the eighth-most (Wimmer – 63) was just 13. For Arsenal, that gap between eighth and first was 31, Monreal to Iwobi.

It works on sprints, too. Danny Rose made the most with 72, but the gap to fourth was only 14 (and that would have been lower had Walker not been substituted with an injury). For Arsenal, the gap was 22. It’s a hypothesis rather than conclusion, but is this how Tottenham keep up their intensity every week?

It's no coincidence that the two teams not in Europe are currently the freshest and picking up the most points, whilst us, City, and Arsenal have suffered from the CL intensity to varying degrees. We'll see how a truer reflection around Xmas, when everyone is blowing through their arse...

Poch has certainly got his tactics & formation spot on when we it comes to disrupting Arsenal's quick passing game.
