according to kicker, BVB agrees fees with arsenal on aubameyang.

BBC’s David Ornstein on Twitter:

BREAKING: Arsenal close to reaching agreement to sign to striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for club-record fee in region of £60m. Transfer won’t be sanctioned until #BVB have replacement lined up - remains unclear if that will be Olivier Giroud or not #AFC

They must be going two 4-4-2 if they sign him. Don't understand how else they'd fit: Lacazette, Ozil, Wilshere, Mkhitarian. In the same lineup

Probs be something like this:

Aubamayeng---------Lacazette

Ozil------Wilshere--------Xhaka----------Mkhitarian

Either way that's a scary team going forward, but they'll leak goals for fun.

£60m for a 29 year old is crazy.

I'm not just saying this because it's Arsenal but I genuinely don't think it'll work out. Mkhitaryan has also shown very few signs he's up to it in the Prem..

I think they’ve done pretty well if this goes through.

It’s a pretty short term view but it’ll keep them ticking over when they couldn’t really been facked with Sanchez going.

Looks okay on paper but

Ozil is gone in the summer
Wilshere is just between injuries
Mkhitarian still has question marks over his ability to cut it in the prem (my guess he starts well then tails off as Arsenal training methods take effect)
When the going gets tough, Xhaka just sort of stands about doing not a lot of anything.

Yes, they've done some good business given the circumstances but I don't think this is some great leap forward

From this mornings Guardian online....

  • An agreement is close for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund. According to Fabrizio, a deal in the region of €65M (£57.1m) has been sorted between the clubs and, all going well, Aubameyang will sign a contract until 2012 at the Emirates Stadium, worth €10m a season.

Spot the usual Grauniad typo ... His contract until 2012 LOL.

Maybe it’s a new fangled get out clause?

I wonder if Wenger is on board with this Auba transfer business or is it done over his head by the board ?

I may wonder but I really don't care either way, I just don't want to hear them repeating the 'we are skint' poormouth mantra.

There's talk of Ozil signing a new deal.

Aubameyang is decent, but their attack isn't the problem. The spine of their team is weak and will continue to be so without significant investment. Xhaka is a good player, but can't tackle - Wilshere likewise. Koscielny has been awful this season and is past it. Bellerin is defensively incredibly suspect, Monreal is good but getting on, same as Cech.

They need a massive overhaul to get anywhere close to what they once were. Wenger has done an amazing job there overall, but needs to go to bring in a new dawn for them imo.

I'd be shocked if they do anything now which isn't driven by the board/backroom. He surely can't have the reigns at all times given he's on his way out.
