Zenit to offer Arshavin lucrative return?

Zenit St Petersburg are reportedly ready to offer Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin a lucrative offer to return home to Russia, less than six months after arriving in England.
The Russian international joined the Emirates Stadium outfit at the beginning of February for £15 million, and enjoyed an explosive start to his Premier League career, netting six league goals in 12 appearances, including four against Liverpool at Anfield.
However, the diminutive playmaker has recently revealed his shock and horror at the hefty amount of tax being deducted from his salary.
And the news is thought to have prompted the 28-year-old's former club - who are backed by the largest oil and gas company in the world - to plot a big-money move to lure Arshavin back to his homeland.
Zenit are currently languishing in sixth place in the Russian Premier League, losing three of their last five matches.

"The bosses of the St Petersburg club intend to make Andrey a very thoroughly thought out offer which can motivate him to return home," said Sport Den Za Dnem, quoting a source.
"He has started his career at Arsenal brilliantly but that is not an obstacle for negotiations - on the contrary money is a good reason to begin them. Zenit need reinforcements."
Zenit St Petersburg have refused to comment on the speculation.

Surely he wouldn't consider this, would he

How funny would that be.

 dude

It would be funny, but it'd also take some serious coin to make Arsenal consider it.

Don't think he'll leave the best league in the world. Would be funny though, he was the one sort of glimmer of hope they had at the end of the season.

Although this appears to be complete BS I do wonder what influence the Russian crook on arse's board has and whether the transfer money from arse to Zenit really changed hands.

Which wouldn't be a problem for Zenit and if Arshavin pushes for a move back (which I seriously doubt) then there is a good chance that it could happen somewhere in the near future. Like Pav, he doesn't seem settled in England, the vast difference is that one of them is world class and really isn't affected by it on the pitch.

i remember seeing his original interview, where he said a priority of his was to re-negotiate his contract, as he hadnt realised that although he was on a much higher salary - his take home pay would actually be less than when at zenit.

there is 1 flat rate for income tax in russia, and its 13%. Therefore if he was getting 60k p/week in russia he would take home, £52,500 if he was getting paid £80k per week here, he would take home £47,321.25 per week. (i dont know if they are the figures.. just setting an example) -

i do think though, that we get ripped off here. but bah.. he still probably takes home nearly 50k per week, when probably 99.95% of the country (if not more) dont take that home in a year (would have to earn minimum 75k per year) so he has no room to complain.

in addition to this.. as of next april.. he will pay an additional 10% tax on litterally all of his earnings.. on say 4million a year, thats like £400,000k extra in tax. rediculous.

You'd think somewhere down the negotiation line Arsenal would have mentioned to him about this

If he leaves Arsenal I don't see him going back to Zenit. Somewhere on the continent is surely more likely if he has issues with tax in the UK.

He was getting more money in Russia than he is now, even before tax. The Russian league is the highest paid league in the world I think because it is subsidised. He was always going to have to take a pay cut to come here. It's a problem we found when we were interested in Daniel Carvalho in 2005.
