Is Scott that much better than Devine and Donley coming through?
He's imo the best in his bracket. That could of course change as players develop at different rates and ages etc, but as of now he is definitely better, yes.

That’s going to be tricky, palace just got an 18 mil bid rejected and they want him to stay until summer.

I reckon we’re in a stronger position than Palace, as I think if we had to we’d loan him back until the summer. Particularly as Hojbjerg isn’t getting much permanent interest so may stay until then.

I think he plays a different role though in fairness. Scott could definitely play the 8 role for Ange where as Devine and Donley would play the 10 role (though Devine can play any of the roles I think).

Big talent and the exposure he’s had to men’s football has accelerated his development compared to Devine and Donley, though it’s hard to say who ends up the best player of the 3 at this stage. They could all become excellent players.

Do we have a spare £18m plus if we don't sell hojbjerg? And if we do sell hojbjerg, we probably need him immediately

By "his bracket" I meant young HG CM who push on. Scott is currently the best in that bracket right now for sure. His engine is superb as well. Doesn't mean the others won't catch up or surpass him though, it's possible.

Palace def want a CM this window so if we aren’t as fussed then for sure that gives us a long term advantage. Plus one would assume we would have more financial pulling power. That being said, having read up quite a bit about him recently, I’m not overly convinced we should be offering more then what Palace have offered for him at the moment.

Any chance of this Wharton fella having a greater impact on the first team than Ashley Phillips did, seeing as they both came from Blackburn? I literally don’t know anything about him so am asking.

Signing another midfielder this window who’ll give our current first team squad more depth for this season would be easier to get excited about.

This is a great opportunity for Levy to mix it up with the big boys given our new 8th richest club in the World status, and so many of our rivals struggling in the market.

Much like Alex Scott, I would probably say for Wharton to go to Palace over us for his development - certainly increased level of game time.

Still can't see a willing buyer (I stress, buyer) in this transfer window for Hojbjerg which is key really.

So he goes to Atletico Madrid who will eventually loan him to Southampton with an option that they forget to take up in time and we swoop in for him on a permanent deal with Atletico Madrid.
That's how it works isn't it?

Think we will regret not going for him especially at that price but I trust our recruitment team (for the first time in years) and will get behind our own plan.

Tbh Atleti is probably more tempting than us still atm, so not as simple as us passing on him. Even when the Atleti rumours were new there was a report which said Vermeeren didn't see the PL as being his destination.

He really should’ve took that move to Fulham shouldn’t he, surely even he must be regretting that now
Can’t really blame him when he heard Athletico and Juve were potentially after him.
