What's new

As a team we take a Lampardesque quantity of shots...

I recall that before this round of games (can't find that post on here at the moment - it was about busy defense and attack), we were leading the lead in shots for, and near the bottom (top that is, in terms of where you want to be) in shots against. After yesterday I doubt that changed.

I can only assume that AVB has told the players not to hesitate to shoot when around the box...a sort of collective Franck Lampard tactic. Obviously the more shots you take, the more goals you're likely to score, although unfortunately it's not a linear relationship. So we don't lead the league in goals scored, but over the season the two figures ought to be roughly proportional (to be confirmed).

As for the few shots on goal, that's obviously a combination of the high line and our great DMs.

Doesn't always work either. Footballing equivalent of flinging mud at a wall in the hope that some will stick. Would prefer to measure up first, mix some ronseal and then apply with a trowel.

And this is why Lamela, Chadli & Lennon should start over Townsend. Bring Townsend on a bit later to stretch the tired team

Agree entirely with Lamela and Lennon (when fit) as our first choice wingers. Prefer Andros to Chadli right now though... need to see more of Chadli yet.

This what you talking about? Take Towsend out the equation and things would look a bit different though i'll wager!

Yes that's the one. Thanks. After yesterday we moved further toward the bottom right and Cardiff to the top left. It would be interesting to see over a full season how such plots correspond to final standings..

Okay, maybe Andros over Chadli. I like Chadli's strength and passing, which is why I had him ahead of Andros

Anybody know how many shots we've had this season? Can't find any stats on this.

Indeed... you get assists and goals from the likes of Lamela instead, rather then the 12th cut inside and wild shot over the bar.

105 shots in 5 games of which 34 have been on target.

That means our shots to goal conversion of a pretty poor 4%.

Edit: I should say that is in the league only.

If teams sit deep and camp themselves in the penalty area one way of drawing them out is to take shots from distance so they have to come out to try and challenge you. Then if players make runs into the space that the defenders leave and you try and pass it through. You saw this yesterday when Holtby played a through ball to Paulinho after I think Caulker tried to block it that Marshall ran out and made a save.

How can West Ham average 9.8 shots a game? They have only had 6 on target all season, at the time of the graph. That means 4 games * 9.8 = 39 shots in total: 6 on target/ 39 total * 100/1 = 15.38% accuracy

That means 1 in 8 shots at goal by WHU are on target. They need to go to Specsavers... so does Andros to be fair :D

Yes but 32.38% are on target which is double WHU accuracy, and that is including Andros

West Ham have had 43 attempts in 5 games. As the graph says it shots taken per game and not shots on target per game.
