What's new

At the halfway point of this season, we might have actually improved on last.

Are we better now than we were at the same point last season?

I'd say we're better, but there's still huge areas for improvement.

Last season we were the 2nd highest scorers in the league and in many people's eyes the best footballing team to watch, this season we've had a shit load of injuries and players off form...is there REALLY any surprise that we are starting to return to form now and our forward play is better than it was a month ago?

You have such a basic compression about football, you surprise me.

Abysmal in relation to what then?

Us last season? Other teams?

What is the benchmark of worthy football here? What scale are we working off..... Help me out

Or are you just being dramatic to highlight a point that currently doesn't even have much basis as we have just ripped two teams to shreds scoring 8 in 2 and playing some damn good football in doing so.

Final third. Not going over it again and again.

You can all revise what you've seen this season if you want. Have at it.

We look like we're finally beginning to get more of a clue...we'll see.

I have read what you said and it doesn't include any information on your rating scale.

I am not revising what I have seen I am merely being grounded about it and applying some circumstance to the issues we had during the period where we were struggling somewhat to finish our chances.

We have scored 18 in 6.....had one bad performance in that period vs Man U. Think we need a little bit more praise for that than what you are willing to conceed. Just my opinion though I guess.

"waiting for perfection is merely a way of turning your back on reality....placing a higher value on what's inside your head than what is evident around you"

All you have to do - if you've got time - is go through the matchday threads and read away. Not the only one who's been frustrated with our lack of ideas in the final third this season and how wasteful we've been of good situations

It's not a new problem and it should have been sorted by now, as it has been really basic stuff we haven't been doing - simple movement off the ball (i.e. actually just moving as opposed to being rooted to the spot waiting for the ball to come to you when you are marked and expecting that to go well), not getting behind defenses, not playing short through-balls to penetrate box (too much side-to-side and backwards passing due to lack of inventiveness).

Again, if you want to wish it away it's up to you.

My evaluation is of the season so far. We seem to be waking up a little in how we are working the final third now, so we'll see how it goes.

My evidence is "Matchday threads" :ROFLMAO:

"I appeal to this for evidence!"

Whatever gets you hard, mate.

I actually don't disagree with your main point, but don't appeal to in-the-moment analysis. Don't lose sight of the forest through the trees. We are doing very well attacking finally, but we will see if it has stuck against Chelsea. If we score 2 or more v Chelsea, we know we are doing something right.

Fair enough mate. I don't know how you can defend calling us abysmal in relative terms to anything but you seem to persist in doing so.....

I just think you're expectations were a little too high earlier on in the season considering the circumstances we found ourselves in.

We were clearly not ready for the weight of CL football while missing arguably our two most important players.

It's no coincidence that we have improved since having whole weeks of rest and have for a third of the season now been banging in goals galore.

I don't think there's any excuse for not doing very basic things in the final third Sorry.

I enjoy reading what you have to say and a lot of it deserves consideration but don't use matchday threads as your evidence - it's the one time I avoid this site totally. It brings out the knee-jerk generation that aren't supporters but are looking any excuse to have a go and even level headed posters have instant emotional reactions on that thread that if considered isn't their genuine opinion.

I think the point is we were probably a bit prettier to watch at times last season and therefore expectations have been raised.

I genuinely feel we are more effective this year with a style of play more resilient and suitable to last the whole season. It looks like Poch wants the team to pace itself and not burn out too quickly.

Go back and watch the games then. Easily done these days....

My view on this is rock solid and unshakable as I've been on it since last season and have been looking out for improvement in 2/3 basic areas in the final third, this season.

We disagree. No biggie. Next.

we're at the beginning of a surge up the table right now. enjoy the ride. going on a run because I genuinely believe we won't lose to Chelsea (H) and City (A) and may win either or both while picking up max points from Watford, West Brom, Sunderland, and Boro.

Chelsea, City, then Pool in February will be huge matches for our season.

I think I deserve more optimistic ratings, please.
