Forget the "Big 4" (God I hate that saying!) In the EPL there are 6 Big clubs plus City and Chelsea who have cheated there way to success in recent years who have the potential to be truly succesful in terms of history, fan base, and Finance.

They are in order of size:

United
Liverpool
Arsenal
Us
Everton
Villa
Chelsea
City

At a minimum we should always be in the top 8 and when we have finished outside that top 8 in the last 20 years it should of been seen as an absolute disaster!

Just looking ahead for next season I cant see Everton (No money but a great manager) or Villa (Pending disastrous managerial appointment IMO) finishing above us.

So next year it will be Top 6 again and almost certainly European football.

To finish in the top 4 again will be very tough to acheive so Im thinking with a top 6 place finish almost in the bag with relative ease if you look at our squad. We should go all out in the cups, and yes I include the much criticised Europa Leage. I want to see silerwear at WHL once again.

The 2 most disapointing moments over the last 2 seasons for me were the Semi final against Portsmouth and last season disgrace verses Fulham away. I want to see my club at Wembley again. Its what makes our club great.

Winning the EPL is what will make our club greater.

I'd sacrifice the next ten years worth of Cup Finals if it meant that we were putting a realistic challenge in for the title. Being a top 6 club isn't enough, we should be aiming at being the very top club, no matter how unrealistic some may feel that ambition is.

My Dad brought me up on stories or the Bill Nic side, the Glory Glory years. It was his stories that made me a Spurs fan, it is the desire to see the lillywhite repeat the exploits of that great side that keeps me a Spurs fan, as well as the desire to see us as the dominant force in English Football once again.

Winning cups is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but how many here would swap just one PL title for any domestic trophies? (and that DOESN'T include Big ears!)

The title is the Grail, everything else is a bonus.

I agree with the sentiment. However we have just 2 league titles to our name.

We do however have a wonderful cup predigree and that is what makes THFC such a great club. From Ricky Villa to Des Walkers header. From being the first British club to win a European trophy to Graham Roberts massive smile in 1984.

We need to get back to winning things. For a club of our size and predigree to not have a FA Cup to our name in 20 years is a disgrace IMO and needs to be rectified next season.

Lol cheated their way to success, like we haven't spent cash in that time.

We have spent money within our means and have done things the right way.
Chelsea and City spend money the club (on paper) hasnt got and are everything that is bad about English football. They havent earnt it.

If City hadnt of won the lottery 3 seasons ago they would probably be finishing around the relegation zone which is where they truly belong.

Everton? Fan base maybe but unfortunately for them (I like the Toffies and Moyes) they don't have a pot to piss in, never start playing till after Christmas and have no choice but to sell their top players. Pienaar last year and roumours of Arteta, Rodwell and Baines going this year. On last years performance we should be looking to compete with Liverpool, Chealsa and Arsenal for a finish in 3rd, 4th or 5th.

Of course I would luv us to be winning the league but Man U under Ferguson are so strong no matter who he fields and although I wanna rip my tongue out for saying it I think Man City will be right up at the top, and is my tip for the league.

I thought that this thread was going to explain how next season we will have 6 clubs competing for CL places and how it'll be closer than ever with 10 games = 30 points up for grabs against the others

but...erm...it basically seems to be about whether we should concentrate on the cups

As much as I appreciate the various cups we've won over the years winning the league is the big one and with one or two signings, particularly in the strikers area, plus more consistency, it's well within our means. If we do get a shit hot striker and a decent partner for him, and become, heaven forbid, more consistent against the lower teams then whose to say we can't win the league next season ?

Much and allas I hate City, that's a bit harsh. Ok, they hit the jackpot, but who has the right to say they should be down the bottom. Before MJ we were mid table, often battling it out with City for Uefa Cup spots or 10th place. City, before they got taken over were exactly as we were barely a decade ago. They've just been fortunate with the fast track to success with the sheikh.
