If we can't compete on all fronts, then we are not ready for the demands of champions league football. We need to install a winning mentality at the club, that won't happen if we sacrifice cups.
I'm sorry but the season we were in it showed us that we were ready... Arguably more than man city!

No one is talking about sacrificing cups, I want to win every game and every cup! But that is not realistic. I'm glad AVB is focussed on the Europa cup, I think it is important, but we have also used the competition to rest key players for the league whilst also playing largely the 1st team.

I only said that if one had to choose, I would choose the CL. That is all...

Personally I think that we have so much quality that we can win both cups and get Top 3 but I'm a bit deluded :)
I share your delusion.

AVB has shown that he can rest players and still field a team that is strong, and balanced, enough to win any game that we play. That being so, I see no reason why we should not compete for top three while making a decent fist of both cups. Subject, of course, to the proviso that we aren't decimated by injuries. A couple of high-quality additions in January will obviously help this (particularly regarding the league) but I don't think it's essential.

Having said that, I'd settle for either cup and CL next season .

We wouldn't be able to agree a deal until July. Only foreign teams can approach the player in January.
So we use our new 'partnership' with Madrid.

They approach Walnut. He agrees to join them (at Spurs level wages) and signs a pre-contract agreement, not noticing that the club that he's agreeing to sign for is the mighty Spurs. We leak the news, the resulting publicity turns all the Goon fans against him (he becomes their Judas) and, faced with their hatred, he decides to go ahead and join us to get his own back on them.

Simple.

(I should change my user name to Machiavelli.)

If we can bring in a fwd to lead the line in this window and a utility winger who can play on either flank. I think we have a real chance of 3rd place and a cup run.
