They've worked out new ways to help companies sell you more stuff.

From what I am reading, they help other companies by saying:

Autonomy: OI. RICH PEOPLE IN BIG COMPANIES! GOT SHITLOADS OF DIGITAL/COMPUTERISED DATA THAT NEEDS SORTING OUT INTO A NICE EASY TO USE DATABASE/SOFTWARE TYPE THING?

Big Rich Companies: Why, yes. Have loads of cash and do that for us.

Autonomy: Safe brezwin... we should do this on a global scale and become a huge company.

And they did.

'Autonomy's ability to process information has had a significant impact upon the efficacy of many world-renowned security agencies.'

'...and the UK Law Society to speed research, facilitate collaboration and information sharing, avoid duplication of effort, improve internal communications and streamline operations.'

Granted. It's a little unusual for a company like this to sponsor a footy team. Almost all sponsors are aimed directly at the individual consumer. Retail, gambling etc. This is a rare instance where in fact it's aimed at companies.

Perhaps Autonomy are wanting to branch out and aim themselves at the sole trader/tiny businesses now by offering small scale, cheaper versions of what they do for the big boys. Dunno if Autonomy are actually any good though. They must be at least half decent to have grown to the size that they are I spose.

They have grown incredibly fast since they started. I just do not understand what the company does in simple terms.

Maybe an IT poster can help?

no idea of the synergy behind this

but from an outsider's view, the first time I'd heard of them was when the sponsorship came up - and i bet that is/will be true for lots of fans worldwide, not just our fans

now that may not cut a single deal for them in itself, but getting worldwide brand exposure for £8m a year may be a decent deal

BTW, i honestly think that all figures for prem viewing and indeed football viewing in general is way above any official level and is of high intensity too

eg - loads of people watch football on dodgy streams/boxes worldwide, and i doub that the figures have caught up properly yet

they also specifically watch football in a way a lot of programmes don't get intensely watched

i can't tell you the amoungt of houses i've been round where the telly is on and droning away, but no-ones paying much attention

generally with football most fans are watching if it's on

not everybody in the house may be - but at least one will be most times

and for many there'll be intense interest far more than many other programmes that may get higher ratings

They're a company I sort of have to pay attention to. EmperorKabir pretty much had it anyway

They help large companies who have vast amounts of data - often a chaotic, insane jumble - to store it securely, keep a handle on it all, and make it searchable.

Searchable and stored safely for legal reasons, mostly. This is a growing area, because of legislation that insists on retention for long periods, with retrieval for court cases and suchlike

Pretty dry stuff

Well from what I know of them they offer a sevice which no other company does and as such have grown massively over the last few years.

I don't really understand what they do, but my brother worked for them for a few years and basically said that their founder craves world domination and exposure, so securing sponsorship deals with McLaren and Spurs is possibly more of an ego trip than anything else. Looking at their customer base it doesn't seem like they really need the exposure from a business angle.

Incidentally, Autonomy are now have a large workforce around the San Francisco area, although I think the head office is still in Cambridge. Good exposure for them on our little tour of California last week.
