As much as I hate Arsenal, I find myself hating Chelsea more and more. And not because of what happened last season. Years ago when Woolwich had Adams, Keown, Winterburn etc they had those characters who were easy despise. Although our rivalry with Arsenal will always be strong i can't help feel that Chelsea have more of those villains now. Terry, Cole, Lampard. I'm against everything they represent. Factor in AVB against his old club, last seasons misfortune and our recent run of results, a great atmosphere surely awaits. If it's not rocking for this game, then it never will.

the first half performance against man utd plus the second half determination, character and resolve is required for ninety minutes. for me this is the first real test of our top four credentials against a side that is sadly flying. a victory will send out a message that will hopefully shut up the tabloid rags and make everyone aware that we should not be overlooked.

This will be a massive test If we can beat Chelsea with style we're title contenders...we have the players to damage Chelsea IMO so have Chelsea the quality to beat us but with the backing from the crowd we can beat them at the Lane. from all the players they've bought Oscar is the one that stands out for me. Remiras always seems to play fanstastic against us so hope his not playing.

Atmosphere this season has been shit. We only sing when we're winning and in the first 5 minutes. It's not a coincidence that nearly all away fans this season have been singing the 'just like the library' song.

That will obviously change against Chelsea and maybe a blinding performance will set us up for better quality football for 90 minutes over the next few games. I assume it's the lack of attacking/beautiful football that's causing the lack of atmosphere? Or we're used to success (ish) now and nothing less than 3 points will do?

Weird but we were much noisier when we were shit. Nowadays it seems we save it for the big matches, whereas in the 90's we were loud for almost a whole match against, say, Coventry, despite being unbelievably average.

I'm going to get shitfaced against Chelsea and if I can speak normally Sunday morning, I won't have done my job properly.

Can see it being a game for the neutral with plenty of attacking play. We need our big players to stand up in this game. Sandro Gallas and Vertongen will all be key, if we stop them down the middle, we have a big chance.

Yes it was, even the dickheads who sit in front of me were singing instead of booing.

Really? I thought the atmosphere was poor, we only started to sing a bit when we scored. The villa lot were singing "just like a library" and to be honest it was like a fucking library! No one song back at all. It really does seem like we only sing or make noise when we are winning.

It was better then it has been for a while, and there was no booing from dickheads which was bonus.

It started off well but as usual the away support were well up for it and after about 25 minutes and a few wasted opportunities I think our fans got a little anxious and the Villa fans got louder/more confident. I was a bit disappointed that when they were doing the library chant, the "Shall we sing a song for you" chant and "shhhhh" noises we just sat back and took it.

To be fair though, I can't always be fucked to keep the chanting going for the whole bloody way through. There are times that I'd like to watch the game...

Need to get through the internationals with no injuries ahead of this game. Was it not about this time last year we lost Dawson and Defoe within a few days while playing for England.

I went ahead and did a real quick ghetto sketch of what the lineups/matchups could be. Looking at it this way, I really think we are going to need our wing play to be great to be able to open up their midfield.

Lets not get too hasty! Our squad is not good enough to sustain a challenge over the course of a season in my opinion. Certainly if you compare it to the likes or Man City/Chelsea/Man Utd.

If Bale, Dembele and Lennon are out then all of a sudden we look very average.

Well with football, anything is certainly possible, but I think even AVB knows that it is a stretch. Perhaps next year if Levy has another window like the one past. Though I doubt that will happen with no Modric to sell (unless we sell BALE????) um anyways

We are well capable of beating them if we turn up on the day - AVB will know that.

We have a good chance of beating Chelsea but winning the league is another kettle of fish. Our striking department, wing cover and central mid cover are all inadequate if we are going to make a league challenge.

Yup, I agree with you both. I meant winning the league will be difficult this season, but beating Chelsea is surely possible, especially if AVB uses his knowledge of the players + RDM against them.
