This is brilliant. Loved to hear that AVB wanted to be a journalist! :)

Great interview, thanks for the link! I'm actually proud to know that our manager was under the wing of one of the most progressive and respected British managers to have graced the game. Robson straddled that period of transition in football, from the wilderness of the 70's to the modern money soaked machine of the premier league, via making waves in european leagues. His discoveries of players like Ronaldo and coaches like Mourinho and AVB speak for themselves, plus his successes at each stage of his career.

It's almost a shame that his last major position was at Newcastle, he was far too good for that club. Fair enough that was his boyhood club, and he built a good team there, got them into the CL regularly. But as ever for that club they treat him shabbily and sacked him after one poor start to the season. Just desserts that they've spiralled into a joke club since then.

Way way too good for them. Great guy and great spirit for the game. He adored footy and you could always see that it had his heart. Gawd bless the bobster.

Newcastle are a great club. Great footballing traditions, passionate supporters. Lovely city. It's not the poor supporters fault that they have a **** of an owner in charge

AVB 's sense of humour permeates throughout this and many other interviews that I've seen. This quality, plus the way he's so respectful are key to quality man management, no wonder the players are endeared to him
