I was having a conversation with my dad the other day and he was talking about 'the good old days' and how they used to get them inner city trains to away games up north etc.

The same old stories he always told, Wolves away in the Uefa cup final scouse kids throwing stones at them for being from London when off to a Liverpool game etc etc, he has many a story about his away day exploits of yesteryear and I am sure I have heard them all 3 times over now.

But in light of all the doom and gloom over the transfer window, heated discussion regarding the proposed move to Stratford and talk of replacing Harry it might be nice to have a thread where fans may discuss where they have watched Spurs away from White Hart Lane and their impressions....

Worst/Best away game/ground you been to?
Worst/Best atmosphere at an away ground?
any amusing or noteable stories you might have from an away game etc?

Myself I have been to the following grounds to watch Spurs....

Stamford Bridge (was a ball boy for Chelsea as I played for their youth set up and was told off for celebrating our goal, I also got to meet Sheringham who nearly broke my neck with a ball he passed to me I headed back)

Griffin Park Brentford, all I can remember is smashing them after Anderton scored 2 mins in. I was in the Brentford stand because I lived near Griffin park, BRentford crowd singhing 'Samways is a virgin' made me laugh, me and my dad also stormed the pitch at full time and shook hands with some players.

Villa Park I remmember a terrible coach journey with my friend from school, we were season ticket holders at the time and when we came through the Aston area I said to him "what a shit hole, I would never live here" a few years later I was at university living a 10 min walk down the road

Loftus Road, Selhurt Park, St Andrews, The Hawthorns, Old TRafford, Anfield, Craven Cottage, Carrow road (I once played there and hit the bar with a near open goal), Upton Park....grr Defoe missed last min pen, the current/new Molineux,

I never made it to Hillsborough as my friend and I missed the coach by 15 mins we were told when we arrived at WHL.

I went to the old Coventry ground Hillfields road when we wore that purple kit in the cup and Ricketts scored a screamer.

San Serio Milan for the 4-0 down at half time Inter match and Wembley for the Chelsea Carling cup final and friendly against Barca.

I think that is pretty much everything except one trip to Leeds I try to forget thanks to a certain Daniel Amokachi which left the young school boy angermanagement almost crying into his hands in the coach on the way home.

Anyway, i don't know if this is of interest to anyone but I'd like to here peoples impressions of the grounds they have been and any amusing or noteable experiences.

for me

Best ground = New Wembley
Worst= Highfield road

I've been to: Seville, Young Boys, Old Trafford, Eastlands, Middlesbrough, Turf Moor, Villa Park, Highbury, Craven Cottage (unfortunately), Crystal Palace, Griffin Park (I also live just round the corner), Charlton, Watford, Southampton, West Ham, Norwich, Ipswich, Reading, Stoke, Bolton, Wembley and Notts Forest to see Spurs.

One happy memory was going to see Villa and Ardiles make their league debut (I think) away at Forest. It was a hot sunny day and we were all packed in the terrace. My friend was very pregnant and finding it a bit hard going so a nice steward let us sit at the side of the pitch to be away from the crush. It was amazing (and a bit alarming at time) to be so near the action.

I hated my one and only trip to OT as we lost 4 0 and I had to then meet up with a load of Mancs fans. I also hated Eastlands as when I went and we won (Kanoute scored) the lad next to me as we walked out got punched in the face by a Shitty fan who just chose him at random to vent his anger at supporting a crap team. The next time I went we had a perfectly good goal disallowed and their fans kept on and on and on mocking us for cheering and then having to stop. It was sooo annoying.

Best Ground - nowhere can beat White Hart Lane, but old Wembley if I have to choose
Worst Ground - Highbury - a library in terms of atmosphere and I was stuck sitting in front of Alan Ball.

Arsenal, Burnley, Blackburn, Charlton, Everton, Fulham, Dortmund, Sparta Prague, Anderlecht, Bayer Leverkusen, Ipswich, Bradford, Wembley, Chelsea, Coventry, Leicester, Sunderland, Newcastle, Leyton Orient, Wolves, Tranmere, Wimbledon, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Millwall, Luton, Man City, Middlesboro, Leeds, Stevenage, Man Utd, Aston Villa, West Brom, Birmingham, Derby, Portsmouth, QPR, Reading, Watford, Southampton, Millennium, Sheff Wed..to name a few!

Best Ground - Borussia Dortmund by a mile, 2006 pre season and there was prob 50,000 there. They have the Kop which is the biggest standing end in Europe.
Awesome atmosphere and we were allowed to drink on the terraces! perfect!

Worst Ground - Bradford, fucking shithole. We were in the upper tier and that was still lower than the the roof of their lower tier!
Proper dive.

Worst experience - Millwall, getting chased back in the ground by 2000 pricks not the best day!

Rightio, here goes, in now particular order and some using team names, some using ground names.

Norwich, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Highbury, The Emirates, Upton Park, Fulham, Cardiff, Reading, Anfield, Goodison Park, Villa Park, Birmingham City, Newcastle, City of Machester, Watford, Wimbledon, Wembley (old and new), Millenium Stadium, Anderlecht, Seville, Slavia Prague, Bayer Leverkusen, Anorthosis Famagusta, Wisla Krakow, Inter Milan.

Have applied for Wolves away today.

So a few, but still plenty of trips I'd like to do.

Too many stories to mention. I love away games, just the best experience in life.

Best Ground (apart from WHL). St James Park, coz I met Cheryl Tweedy.
Worst Ground: Stratford

Worst stadium I've been too is Old Trafford. Poor atmosphere and seats are so small... To be fair, Spurs seats aren't great too... Im 6' 6" and its pretty shit having your knees banged up. Best stadium is (dont be mad) Emirates. Nice big seats. :)

Best atmosphere on its day for me is Spurs but I haven't been to places like Anfield and that!

White Hart Lane
Craven Cottage
Emirates
Wembley
Vicarage Road

Been to a few around the world. World cup in Germany, Maracana stadium in Rio and Bukit Jalil in Malaysia. Viking's stadium in Norway and thats really that!

Well unlike most on this site I would suspect, I have been to many more away games than games at WHL. I live in the north west so away games in my neck of the woods are the usual with the odd trip to a home game. The teams I mention I have been to their grounds numerous times;

I have seen Spurs at;

Blackburn
Burnley
Bolton
Man United (been battered every time)
Man City (Maine Road, Rebrov winner)
Wigan (every year since they have been in the EPL, my Dad had a season ticket as he used to play for them)
Everton
Sheff Wed
Newcastle (in 1984/85 they had Beardsley and Waddle and Hoddle scored a sublime 30 yard volley to win 3-2)
Liverpool (the most memorable, my first ever game, 1-0 win in '85. Garth Crookes winner, our first victory there in 73 years)

Hopefully will go to the Blackpool game coming up, been promised a ticket by a mate.

The only away game I've been to was Forest in the FA Cup. I stayed in the pub a bit too long and almost missed kick off, so walked over the bridge to see the ground all lit up and loads of noise coming across the river from our fans. Great atmosphere (we took up a whole end) and a 3-0 win IIRC.

Hello Netty, one of my mates text me the other day to say that he'd seen a young lad in a Spurs shirt in a cafe in Crosby the other day. He said "you are not the only yid in crosby". A rarity in Liverpool, my son is now proudly wearing the kit in his after school football club. I was putting his boots on the other day and some little lad shouted over, "oh my god, look at Harry's kit!" He sounded like the kid off the milk advert years ago, Accrington Stanley who are they? Exactly.

I'm surprised by how many people I see wearing Spurs tops, t-shirts etc up here - they do get around!

Did you go wearing that vest?
In this vest I am more fit for Gay Pride than a football match, maybe I will get Spurscommunity written on it and wear it to Milan if my cousin gets the tickets again

^^^ Oi - leave Griffin Park alone - at least it's got a pub at every corner - and very nice neighbours!

Its the only pub in the country with a pub on every corner so I believe, plus the old KLM advert on top of the stand used be the biggest in the country or something (used for the flight path to heathrow)

On a sad note, just before xmas two guys who I went to school with were involved in an incident outside the Royal Oak pub, one stabbing the other two death.
