Loved it, loved it, loved it.

What a dumb thing to admit for a chairman - effectively saying: 'We're so unattractive a proposition that even boatloads of money can't get players in here'.

Newcastle is perpetually run by idiots and long may it continue.

...whilst alerting all the real money-grabbing mercenaries that Newcastle is the place to go for easy-money!

I expect Martin Petrov will be rubbing his hands with glee...

Not really, the message to the fans is that he is doing everything they possibly can, so don't blame him.

Understand that and yes of course he has to communicate that.

However, there would have been better ways of articulating that sentiment in public, i.e. don't draw attention to the fact that you lost out to two class players when you pulled the stops out and don't signal to potential players/agents that they'll pay up like mugs.

I stand by my idiot label :)

But seriously, who in their right minds wouldn't choose London and European footie over Newcastle and domestic footie only?

I know some clinically insane people might (like Duff, but were we in Europe when we went for him? Can't remember...) but really!

Someone who likes really easy shags?

Woodgate went for the bright lights of London, eh? Best way to show off his winners medal and man of the match trophy

it's even more sweet when you consider that the cost of living must be 10% higher at least in London (see Woodgate's property prices shock that he encountered) - so if they offer equal wages they're effectively offering something like 10% more - and they're being turned down offering higher wages

Keegan's also being very self-serving as he appears to be part of the problem. The grapevine suggests that many top players aren't prepared to put up with his "once more into the breach" type of man-management which is almost totally devoid of tactical preparation.

Woodgate stated that he wanted to play for a "proper coach". Many people interpreted that a vote for Ramos over Southgate, which it almost certainly was. However, fwiw the rumourmill was saying that there was major discontent in the Barcodes' dressing room over Keegan's lack of tactical nous. So, Woodgate's statement can equally be interpreted as a vote for Ramos over Keegan.

Of course, the Barcodes are looking a little better tactically nowadays, and their improved solidity happens to coincide with the appointment of a certain Chris Hughton as their first team coach. It seems like Chrissie's clipboard is a big improvement on Keegan's motivational speeches (which I suspect get a tad tedious when you're hearing them every week)......

I feel sorry for Stephen Carr because he was a good servant to us and had nothing but good things to say about us when he left. He just made a seriously terrible decision...

Which makes him an idiot. Stupidity can be a dangerous evil. Ergo, no sympathy at all.

True. But what Mort fails to realise is that we didn't have Euro football when Woodgate arrived.

If I remember Carr said something along the lines of "he's joining a big club" when he transferred....thats why he gets so much shit from us.

Very much enjoyed reading this quote by Newcastle Chairman Chirs Mort

"It is frustrating that Modric, like (Jonathan) Woodgate before him, should take less money than we offered to move to the bright lights of London, and European football with Tottenham next season. "

Whoever says that footballers are jsut money grabbing chavs obviously haven't been to Newcastle.

HA! A poster on COYS, that's who, after we signed Modric, who posted some ITK that his Barcodes insider matey told him they only offered Luka 30 grand a week and have no money! Puh!
