Cameroon call for Assou-Ekotto
Spurs full-back set to play for Indomitable Lions

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has accepted the invitation to represent the Cameroon national team.

The 24-year-old has resisted calls from the Indomitable Lions since 2006 after having his heart set on representing France, the country of his birth.

But the left-back has seemingly given up hope of turning out for Les Bleus with Arsenal's Gael Clichy and Manchester United's Patrice Evra just two of the players ahead of him in the pecking order.

The former Lens ace qualifies to play for Cameroon through his father and admits he is looking forward to meeting his new team-mates.

"I am happy to join the national team, I have been welcomed by everyone," he told skysports.com.
Pride

"I am proud to wear the great shirt of Cameroon. I know most of the players because they play in Europe, so let's enjoy myself."

Assou-Ekotto, who joined Spurs in June 2006, has made 18 Premier League appearances this season and he is confident that his side can steer clear of the relegation zone.

"Tottenham will get out of the bottom of the table, Harry (Redknapp) has changed the team," he added.

"You see we are becoming very strong, we will fight and next season we will be ready to push more and be comfortable in the league.

"We have three good players back, (Robbie) Keane, (Jermain) Defoe and (Wilson) Palacios, I have been impressed by him.

"He is a quality player, he has a great engine, never stops running, a fantastic guy as well."

A good decision by BAE me thinks, but does that he will be away for ages in the Africa cup?
