Why would he go to Barcelona when we have a special relationship with Real Madrid

Xavi would instantly become the best player to ever play in MLS. He's still world class. Beckham was losing it a bit when he came over. Xavi would be a great acquisition for us, I think.
I agree, Xavi's got much more to give footballing-wise before the MLS. Then again, if someone offered to pay me £100k a week to go and work and live in New York, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Xavi would be going to Miami. And you couldn't pay me 100k a week to live in Miami (I can barely handle 25 °C ) :D

Rumours are he'd be joining New York FC. Man City's owners' new team in Brooklyn. They're joining the league next season.

He could be looking to sign a Barca player...

Though Vertonghen, Lloris or Sandro are all feasible targets for Barca! They are in need of replacements for Valdes, Puyol and Mascherano after all. worriEd!

Saw the title and thought he was going to join Barca..

Reckon it's more holiday for Franco and perhaps the phone calls were regarding Poch and possible player targets.

Wow, holiday at this time of year seems a bit mental, i would hope not.

Or after helping Levy negotiate and bring in Pochettino, with it all done and dusted, he's now off on holiday and meeting his family in Barcelona before the World Cup starts and work starts again.

....or he's bringing home Messi
Would doubt he's on holiday now, he'll take his holiday when the window closes.

It is of course possible Baldini is out there after a player fro the OTHER Barcelona club -the one Poch used to manage...

As a random guess, I think he will be involved in buying, selling or scouting a player or member of staff (remember Poch's backroom guys largely came from Espanyol and they may have gone home at the end of the season) in the northwest of Spain (Barcelona? Espanyol? Valencia? Zaragoza?).

He has a phone where he can access e-mails and call people of needed. He can take his work with him, can't he?
At the start of the transfer window?

That would be like Santa Clause taking the last two weeks of December off;)
He only works one night. Bit like Levy and deadline day.

Whoa! We don't blanket statement regions in Spain. Zaragoza is Aragon. Barcelona is Catalonia. Valencia is Valencia.

If this were 1936, you would have just started a war.

Maybe, but all players are on their holiday or getting ready for the World Cup, so nothing's likely to happen until after World Cup in my opinion, so could be a chance for him to take his
