Has he made us look better than we are?

Looking back over the last 18 months he's been our trump card in the league and champions league.

We just don't look like scoring without him playing well...

We have averaged more points without him than with him this season apparently.

Disagree. Bale has been poor since january. We have played well, dominateded possession and matches. Just cant finish.

I hate to think where we would have been without VDV this season.
You can make a strong case for VDV, Bale and Modders but without VDV's goals we'd be seriously average.

think Bale's only scored one or two less than VDV, hasn't he? that's inclusive of VDV scoring some pens.

it's Bale and VDV papering the cracks over our shit strikers.

our Champions League run definitely papered over cracks in the league form.

Harry loved his "2 points from 8 games" quote. Will he parrot "1 win in 13 games" now the shoe is on HIS foot?

It's easy to sniff at pens but having a good penalty taker is massive

We all know what the 'cracks' are. We don't have any decent strikers.

Bale, VDV and Modric have not exactly made us look better than we are...I'd say they have made us look as strong as we can be in some areas, whilst highlighting the lack of quality in others.

So no I don't think Bale has papered over the cracks.

It's not bale its the CL that has papered over the cracks.
Finishing 6th in the league, hammered by fulham in the cup & well beaten by man utd reserves in the league cup but because we got to last 8 by beating a poor Milan side (although our Milan away performance was extremely good) & an inter side who got their ass handed to them by a very poor schalke team as shown by the man utd match, all the sky pundits are creaming over him but some serious questions need to be asked of this season.

I'm not in the harry out brigade he definitely deserves another season but he should be warned another poor showing like this in domestic competitions will lead to him getting the bullet. We have a very good team & SQUAD so finishing 6th with no cup run isn't a good enough achievement and shouldn't be tolerated again

Oh I agree, and we know that more than anyone don't we?! Didn't we miss 3 in 5 at one point, this season? (or was it last?) anyway... it's important!

Just saying Bale's done well, got goals (a couple less than VDV) without the benefit of taking the pens.

Good/great players may "paper over the cracks" but really, they're involved in making the cracks too! Bale's been equally involved in us not winning the last 13 as anyone else. No one should be exempt, really.

"We had our chances but we haven't been able to win games, we've been drawing them," Redknapp said. "That spark we had from people who were winning games for us ... Gareth and Rafa in particular ... we were relying on that. But we've lost that spark that makes the difference. I'm not blaming Gareth or Rafa, I'm just saying that they were so good.

"Gareth was the key. He was flying and, suddenly, we lost him for quite a long time [for six weeks from 22 January]. He hasn't really come back in the same form. In the last couple of months he hasn't got over the injury that he had before and it's taken a toll on him. Rafa has done great for us but, in fairness, he's tapered off after a hard season. In the main he hasn't been as good as he was early on."

There was a stat earlyish in the season that something like 11 out of 12 of our goals had either been scored or created by Bale. That might be going back to the end of last season anyway. It was clear as day that we were overly reliant on his goals and assists and that when they dried up we might be in trouble and so it panned out.

Modric, gallas and Dawson have been consistanly excellent.
Since Christmas Bale, VDV have been patchy, while the strikers have been awful.
Up til the winter Harry called everything spot on, getting the right players in and picking the right team.
The clubs failure to pick the right striker, has left us upper midtable this year, and cost the club something like £50 million at least.
We should have walked it this season after the start we made, and have literally handed it on a plate with our inability to win. Thing of all thoese draws, had we won 4 of them, we would have been laughing..its all down to a mix of crap attacking and Gomez!

Dawson has been ok, not consitently excellent.

We were having a good season until the 13 game run that started with Blackpool away. I dont think there was any papering over the cracks but rather a simple dip in form that has ended our season in disappointment.
