I think anyone in the world would love to play for Barca at the moment and Bale at left back would be one area where you could say it'd be a significant upgrade.

Reading the article though and it sounds like he's just being politely honest.

When asked about being linked with clubs such as Barca and Madrid, Bale said: 'I try not to think about that. My team-mates joke a lot about my future, but I don't give it any thought.

Nice to see our players egging him on to think about leaving....

There is nothing wrong with him coming out and saying this. Why would he not consider playing for the best clubs in the world at some point in his career, it's not as if he has said he is going to leave now.

Exactly. In comparison to the clubs he's been linked with Spurs are relatively small potatoes and with the stadium saga dragging on it doesn't look like our potatoes will be expanding any time soon.

It wouldn't be a surprise therefore to see Bale looking for some bigger potatoes in which to frolic.

Mmmmm....potatoes.

Not only that matty, it was a Spanish newspaper, so he's hardly going to say "Sod off" to them is he?!

We musn't forget, these players ain't lifelong hardcore yiddo's like us. They don't feel a particular affinity with Spurs that would make them reject the best clubs on better contracts.

We've just got to keep improving and show them we can achieve what Real and Barca can in a few years. And yet even that sometimes isn't enough. Look at Rooney and Fabregas. Arguably the biggest 2 clubs of the Premier League era, and their star players have/do want away.

I thought that was quite a nice article actually. Some of you need a better, less negative perspective about everything.

Pretty much fits the pattern we all see ahead I reckon but if I read him right then when he does leave us it seems that he's made up his mind to go abroad rather than another English club, that would please me.
The great thing about a player as good as him is that he doesn't need to move from a club like Spurs too soon, there will be other opportunities.

Was about to post the same thing. If and when he leaves, I'd prefer him to go to Spain rather than United, City or Chelsea.

He's still very young and he obviously wants success with a top class team because he's a top class player.

I think he's very level-headed and prepared to wait a few seasons yet which is why he signed a new contract.

We do, however, have to sign more players of his calibre and suffer (or celebrate) the cost, because in the long run, success will pay the club back and more than recoup the outlay. It would be an investment in the future of Tottenham.

We are a whisper away from being one of the best sides in the world and finance being what it is nowadays in football, we have to do whatever is necessary to win titles and trophies. We could miss out on the chance of real achievement and glory by being short-sighted and tight-fisted.

Nothing wrong with it whatsoever, its refreshing actually. As others have said would rather see him in Spain than take the predictable career step to United.

I think he'll be with us another 2 seasons or so yet.

He's plenty of time.

I'm very interested to see if he can leave this injury situation behind him...something doesn't feel right about it at all. We'll see.

Say he stays for another 3 years and gets better and better, how much could we expect to sell him for?
