So Marca has turned your head.

Maybe this is why they do it, as someone said above. They are trying Spurs fans to open more and more to the idea of Bale leaving to Madrid.

Marca haven't done anything to convince me otherwise. It is the fact that Suarez gets linked away and their chairman comes out and says 'He is not for sale unless this much is paid'. Tottenham have been far too quiet about this and when AVB is asked, he says an answer that is similar to what would be called 'sitting on the fence'. No yes, no no. This is what worries me, not some second rate newspaper. (Not saying they are wrong btw, just saying its not what makes me think he is off).

Remember when the world and his wife wanted to know if Arry was going to leave us and go to England just after he won his court battle? What was our approach to that then? Simply refuse to answer the questions put to us. We had a spokesman at press conferences to simply tell the press we wouldn't be answering questions anymore regarding Arry's future.

This is similar. AVB said Bale isn't leaving and since then has 'refused to comment further on the speculation'
We now have people telling the press we won't be answering anything regarding Bale's future.

I'm not overly worried to be honest. I hope he stays of course and I think he will, for another year anyway. I he goes though its nt the end of our world, like fans of other clubs seem to think. We will be hugely compensated with a world record transfer fee and its not as if we won't strengthen in other areas! Paulinho and Chadli already on board, Soldado looking likely. Things are looking good for the upcoming season. Stay positive.

The reason we went on that abysmal run. Lost all respect for Redknapp after that, was very happy to see him get the can.

I wasn't happy he got sacked but it is what it is. We have moved on.

My point is he didnt end up leaving us for England when it seemed nailed on in the media and bookies were saying he was odds on etc, much like they are acting regarding Bale now. It's the same 'prefer not to comment' scenario from the club

The difference is despite the similar media speculations, Madrid wants Bale, the FA didnt want Harry.

Two contrasting views, both released at the exact same time which just proves that the media don't have a clue what is happening and are just guessing really

Mirror - Levy to blank Bale

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-daniel-levy-2100369

By Darren Lewis 28-July-2013 22:30

Daniel Levy is giving Gareth Bale the silent treatment over Real Madrid’s world-record bid to sign him.

The Spurs chairman is refusing “point-blank” to hold any further talks with Bale on the issue after ruling the Welshman will not be sold this summer regardless of whatever Real may offer.

While the football world was stunned by the lengths to which Real are going to get their man, Levy has already dismissed Madrid’s offer of £51million plus Angel Di Maria and Fabio Coentrao - totalling £95million.

This comes a week after Mirror Sport first revealed Spurs’ fears over Bale’s head being turned by Madrid’s incredible bid to make him their latest Galactico.

Levy - set to announce the record-breaking, £26million signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia this week - is now giving Bale the cold shoulder.

The Spurs chief is desperate to reach the Champions League and believes they have a much better chance with Bale in the side.

But while Tottenham were claiming dirty tricks by Real last week, Bale’s camp are angry that Levy is reneging on a promise made to their man last year.

They claim Levy told Bale when the winger signed his new deal last year that he would be allowed to leave if Madrid moved in for him this summer.

Bale is understood to have only signed on the strength of that “guarantee”. This is a repeat of the battle Levy had with Luka Modric over the Croatian’s bid to quit Spurs two years ago.

Just as he successfully did back then, Levy is adamant he will not sell Bale to Real, despite their willingness to shatter the world-record £80m they paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Telegraph - Levy flies back to UK for talks with Bale

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/10207785/.html

By John Percy 10:30PM BST 28 Jul 2013

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to restart contract talks with Gareth Bale this week but are facing the prospect of another bid from Real Madrid as the race to secure the future of the Wales international intensifies.

Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, quit his family holiday in Florida to fly back to London and is expected to approach Bale’s representatives in the next few days over a deal worth about £170,000 a week and is determined to snub offers from Madrid, despite already receiving and rejecting a world-record £81 million bid.

Telegraph Sport understands that contract talks reached a stalemate months ago even though Andre Villas-Boas, the manager, insisted last week that negotiations were ongoing but Spurs will step up their attempts to persuade Bale to stay at White Hart Lane for at least another season.

Bale is fully aware of the interest from Madrid, however, and Carlo Ancelotti is poised to make another blockbuster offer which could include players such as Fabio Coentrao and Ángel di María as part of the deal.

The package would come close to £100 million and shatter the previous world record fee of £80 million that Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

There is no guarantee that Bale, 24, will sign the contract even if it is offered to him and the interest from the Spanish giants has left him seriously considering his next move.

He is disillusioned by Spurs’ fierce rearguard action and Villas-Boas is also growing increasingly concerned that Madrid’s persistence, and the apparent impasse between the club and Bale’s representatives, could result in the winger leaving White Hart Lane in the next few weeks.

After the 6-0 victory against South China on Saturday Villas-Boas was repeatedly questioned about Bale’s future but cut a downbeat figure and neglected to expand on the issue, refusing to even acknowledge the bid from Madrid.

Levy has consistently reiterated to Villas-Boas that he would not sell Bale this summer and is believed to have had further talks to assure him over the past 48 hours.

Spurs arrived back in London on Sunday after flying back from Hong Kong, though Bale did not play in both matches in the Asia Trophy due to a muscle problem.

He could play against Monaco in a friendly this weekend but the saga is set to escalate before then, with Spurs seemingly facing a losing battle to keep him in the capital.

David Pleat, a former Tottenham manager, is convinced that Levy will still enhance his reputation as one of the toughest negotiators in European football and maintain his stance.

He told Talksport: “Tottenham have control and the final say and they will decide if he goes. I don’t think there’s the panic from the club’s point of view that there seems to be in the media. The club mustn’t bow to the pressure from outside.

“But they were talking £50  million, £60  million earlier in the summer. This could rise to something crazy like £100  million, which would blow any club out of the water.

“At that stage, even Tottenham, who have resisted strongly, may have to look at it. How do you resist that type of money? Manchester United couldn’t resist it for Ronaldo.”

Villas-Boas also has other headaches with which to contend. After missing out on Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, who signed a new contract after weeks of uncertainty, Villas-Boas’s pursuit of Valencia forward Roberto Soldado remains a priority and negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with Spurs required to break their transfer record to sign the Spain international.

Valencia are demanding around £26  million for Soldado, a fee that would eclipse the £17  million Spurs paid to Corinthians for Paulinho this month.

Tottenham are sending defender Adam Smith to Derby County on loan for the season.

I've not seen anything to convince me that anything is going on at all. Seems like Marca posted something and everything from there has just been a spin on the same thing. All media outlets are just quoting each other and creating a frenzy out of nothing.

Even the BBC are in on the act with an article with no quotes claiming Bale is asking to speak to Real.

I hardly ever post but I am furious with this bbc article. Has quotations in the headline that bale "wants to speak to Madrid". I read the article it doesn't say who said this, was it bale, his agent, Edna who works in the cafe?

I just want to know what the agenda of the media is? Do they want the best player in the country to leave and weaken the league?

My two penneth is we should not sell bale, under any circumstances this summer. We have a real chance to do something this year and have a real outside shot at the title. Is this a football club or a business? Losing modric, vdv and bale within the space of 12 months is just too much! We lose him then avb goes next year, and we are in a constant state of flux losing big pieces of the jigsaw every year.

What I'd like to ask, would the media be so all over this if bale played for Chelsea? Or city? Why are they hell bent on him leaving spurs?

If I was the paranoid type I would says that the rags and media in general hate the status quo changing. They see it as bad so will do anything to destabilise the club that are looking to break into the established big 4 clubs.

They can't do this to Man City as they have sooo much money that if needed they can throw money at the problem.

However I think it's been a quiet window so far and that means the media to clinging to any potential move like a dog with a bone.

More media bollocks with no quotes and baseless speculation - just unfortunately this is exactly how the Modric and Berba sagas started.

Who knows how it'll pan out, with Modric we did at least manage to hang on to him for one season.

The Sun

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...Bales-parents-join-in-Tottenham-showdown.html

Tottenham star Gareth Bale’s parents have been seen visiting the club’s training ground for showdown talks with chairman Daniel Levy, according to reports in The Sun.
Bale and his representatives reportedly met Levy to reiterate his desire to leave White Hart Lane to join Real Madrid this summer.
But onlookers were surprised when the 24-year-old’s parents, Frank and Debbie, also arrived for the meeting.
The Sun quotes one witness as saying: “I couldn’t believe it when the Bales arrived at the training ground. God knows what they said to Mr Levy.”
The Welsh international has told Spurs that he wants to leave. Reports in Spain suggest a deal could be completed on August 6 or 7.

The Oracle that is Adrian Durham has his say on it in his Daily Mail column

There isn’t one good reason for Gareth Bale to stay at Spurs.

As soon as his heart-shaped logo went to the patent office most of us knew Bale was aiming for bigger things than the Europa League with a club whose proudest boast is having a long list of stellar players, rather than a long list of top honours.

Bale probably should have made his intentions clear much earlier in the summer, but he has seemingly applied to join the elite. That application won’t be accepted any time soon if he stays at Spurs.

It is a harsh reality, and a painful irony, that so many praised Andre Villas-Boas for finishing fifth. They might as well have been paying Bale’s airfare to Madrid. His ambitions go way beyond a respectable points tally.

Dressing up failure as success won’t fool true winners.

Bale may well respect AVB, and he may enjoy playing for him. He probably felt that way about his school coach, or youth team boss at Southampton. But there comes a time when it feels right to move on.

Are family issues a reason to stay at Spurs? No because Cardiff is still Bale’s emotional home. He goes back when he can – same applies if he moves to Madrid.

What if Spurs match Madrid’s salary offer? Even if Spurs better it, endorsements can take Bale’s earnings into orbit at a giant like Real Madrid. At the Bernabeu that heart-shaped logo will be so huge, Brand Bale will become the new Brand Beckham.

Sadly for Spurs fans the reality is they’re not the most famous team in the world playing in white.

Bale has played so well he has earned the right to determine his own future. And those Spurs fans who say he won’t enjoy his football as much come close to providing a forceful reason for Bale to stay at the Lane, but not close enough. Plenty of players have enjoyed their
time in Madrid, so why shouldn’t Bale back himself to do the same?

Enjoying your football in the Champions League, while battling for football supremacy in Spain against Neymar and Lionel Messi, obliterates anything Spurs can offer. What exactly can the quest to finish above Arsenal truly mean for Gareth Bale? That kind of thing is bigger for fans than players these days.

I believe the prospect of becoming the world’s most expensive footballer is the kind of thing that matters for a player with Bale’s talents.
And if Spurs deny the player that honour, there may well be a feeling of resentment underlying every Bale performance next season.

The Oracle that is Adrian Durham has his say on it in his Daily Mail column

The thing that annoys me the most about Durham is his arrogance and lack of respect. As much as I hate to admit it, he brings up a few points in that article that are valid, but it's his complete dismissal of our club that irks me. He has no respect for us and makes that clear at every opportunity. I also abhor the way he disrespects our manager too, who, despite in my eyes proving himself to be a very good manager after Chelsea's big boys clique fucked him around, will still not give him the time of day.

It's funny because he's always rooting for the underdog and praises teams like Swansea and Southampton for doing it "the right way"; playing good football and not bullying others with money. We are the perennial underdogs to the big clubs in this country. We've been doing it "the right way"; we haven't bullied those around us with mega-bucks like Chelsea or City. We have also played good football too, unlike the Arsenal of the many years ago or, more recently, Chelsea. For some reason though he still continues to disrespect us as a club. Quite frankly, he's just a tosser.

There's another fail article in the Mail I won't link to saying in bold after the first paragraph "VIDEO: Scroll down to watch Bale asking to leave Spurs". There is a video, but it doesn't even have an old interview with Gareth in. It's just a female VO rehashing all the garbage we've been hearing the last few days.

I'm out until this circus dies down and we hear one way or another.
