He looks like hes being crowned a hero down at southend, I wont be supprised to see Barney become a PL talent in the future

I would love it if he did, he seems like a genuine lad who deserves it.

Good on the lad. He's a natural born finisher but never had the all round game for the top level. He'll be a player that will always do well though in the lower leagues I imagine. And, you never know, as he grows in experience maybe he will make it one day... maybe...

Oddly enough he did not start out as a natural finisher, he used to play quite deep, linking the play. It was Clive who presented him with his scoring boots. But I always felt the reason that Clive really valued him was less for his goal scoring than for his overall contribution. Barney's constant harrying of defenders enabled Clive to play a very high line and keep the game in the opposition half. Clive has tried to work same game plan using other forwards, but it just does not work as well.

Barney is actually a bit of a one-off as a striker, I cannot think of an obvious comparison. In the glimpses we caught of him in his substitute appearances for the first team there were suggestions that his game could be effective against Premiership defences. If he can stay fit, I suspect we will see one day.

Anyway, I am glad Barney has proved wrong all those knobheads who used to point to his loan record and say he could only score for the reserves.

According to soccerbase we let Barney go on a free. Is that right?

Can't imagine so. All other sites say 'undisclosed fee', so I'd guess there was some sort of fee involved.
Probably wasn't high though, didn't his contract with us expire at the end of this season anyway?

I heard somewhere we sold him for £10,000 :| No idea why we agreed to such a stupidly low fee. Maybe he didn't want to continue at Spurs if he wasn't promised a chance in the first team, and £10,000 was the wages he'd have made if he'd stayed with us until the summer? Who knows. Either way it wasn't the best deal we've ever done if the fee is correct.

Always liked what I saw of Barny, and would rather have him as our 4th choice striker than not at all.
