Presumably Sherwood doesn't trust Veljkovic like he trusts Bentaleb. Either that or that whole thing with Capoue was a load of crap. If you're going to take a bench load of kids then you must be prepared to expect to have to use one or two of them at some stage, so why not start Veljkovic instead of playing Sandro out of position?

I like how we've spent the season bitching about the piss poor pub teams we've had to play in the Europa League and the moment we come across a decent side we get eliminated via what could very well be a hammering.

Siggy and Lennon to compete for most ineffectual player of the match. I remember the last time Siggy played in central midfield. It was in our 1-0 home defeat to Fulham last season. I know it's hard to believe, but he was absolutely useless in that game.

Didn't he play CM in a 4-4-2 (lol) against West Ham in the Leage Cup?

Didn't he play CM in one of Tim's early games? West Ham?

He played in midfield against West ham in the Capital One Cup and he was the shittest player on the pitch

Veljkovic has spent the whole season in DM bar a couple of games and of course when he was playing for the national U19's

Well at least it'll make the game interesting. My money is on Lennon to get the highly disputed 'most ineffectual player of the match' award, although Siggy will give him a good run for his money.

This will either be glorious or hilarious.

Either a stunning season reviving hat trick from soldado, or yet another thumping, this time finally relieving us of our obvious burden and reluctance to have more than 3/4 fit senior defenders at anytime.

0-3 soldado

Or

3-0 benfica with sandro rose and naughton all picking up injuries.

Because this is Tim Sherwood we are talking about. His selections defy logic.

Look, I know defensively we are always going to be tested but why compound matters and place a chocolate teapot midfield to protect it?!

Honestly, it's fucking shambolic that lineup and how degrading for Eriksen, our best player available on the subs bench next to youngsters!

We could have lined up like this;

Friedel

Naughton Veljkovic Fryers Rose

Sandro Bentaleb

Lennon Eriksen Chadli

Soldado

That with Townsend in for Lennon is perfect

But what are we saving him for? Our fight for 7th place? Our season is essentially over, and this match represents our last, slim, chance of rescuing it. Might as well go for it.

Exactly, and if we are resting Eriksen then what the point in playing Sandro..?

This is team Benfica started at WHL :

Benfica: Oblak, Garay, Siqueira, Silvio, Luisão, Sulejmani, Amorim, Fejsa, Rodrigo, Lazar Markovic, Cardozo.

So, they have made 4 changes to the team : Maxi, Gomes, Salvio and Djuricic, come in for Silvio, Fejsa, Rodrigo and Markovic.

Not that I know any of those players but I wonder if that makes Benfica any better or worse team today.

Silvio can't play because he saw the 3rd yellow card. Maxi is Better than him attacking, but worst defending.
Fejsa is a defensive midfielder, excellent stealing the ball. Gomes is more a box to box.
Rodrigo is a strilker and Salvio is a right mid or a right forward.
Markovic is like Messi, plays in the middle or in the wing with total freedom. Djuricic is a pure attacking midfielder.

Sorry for my english dudes :D
