Berbatov's Agent

Just had this posted on COYS.

Just been emailed from my Bulgarian mate, sorry if already posted

''There was interview with Berb's agent on TV just now.

He said noone is saying Berbs is leaving. In the Sun interview he just said what he has said in the past and what he and Levy had agreed on - that IF an offer from a big club comes, they will sit and discuss it and not just refuse it.

Also, no release clause in Berbs contract. There were talks for extending Berbs contract several months ago but when his agent insisted a release clause be included, Levy refused, so they stopped negotiating.

Said BIG club means really big - there are 6,7 such clubs in Europe and most of them already have 3,4 quality strikers, so that narrows the big clubs that might be interested to just 2 or 3. All he wants is if any offer comes, it will be discussed seriously. Also said Berbs costs much more that what Spurs paid 2 years ago and a serious offer should reflect that.''

I hope this will cut down the Berbatov off threads and people see that he always looks lazy when on the pitch untill he gets the ball most of the time.

I even remeber the threads when he first came here, people saided he was lazy back then.

I'm well aware of the irony of starting a Berbatov thread to stop people starting Berbatov threads but ...

Surely surely this is transfer rumours.

[And don't call me Shirley ...]

I think this deserves to stay in Spurs chat as it is more of a "spurs" story than a vague link about a particular transfer.

Not being pinickity. Well, actually, being extremely pinickity - but it's the whole point of the seperate forum. The tabloids and even The Times today is linked with a Rumour about Berbatov's potential Transfer. So where better to go?

It stops this place getting cluttered even more than usual.

I told you 4-5 months ago that Berbatov would sign a new contract only if it contains a release clause. That's hardly new to fans who don't treat me just as a big fan of Berba who pretends to know more than he actually knows

Sorry, but I'm afraid that that Bulgarian friend has put it a bit mildly: His agent wants from Levy not to discuss the possible offer but to accept it. And he knows that the chance Levy to accept it is not great at the moment. Much depends on the semi-finals agaisnt Arsenal. Till the outcome is clear, from WHL will firmly reject all rumours as pure speculations.

It was his agent quoted. Not "his friend". Or is that wrong ? Are you based in Bulgaria ?

How often are these rumours banded about and the player actually stays? I am sure there are occasions and I know you guys will be able to recall them. However, I often think there's no smoke without fire.

I am preparing for a Keane / Defoe / Bent front three....

Show me where you said that.

There was a debate with Kendall and others in June or July. I explained them it's a principle of his manager that every contract after the first one should contain a release clause acceptable for the player, in that case no more than 25 mill. I predicted that his salary will be raised even though he is not going to sign an extension. It turned out that i was perfectly right.

Berbs will go in the summer, to find Champions League football.
I still think Bent was bought as his eventual replacement.

It was an interpretation of what his agent said IMO. Of course, I don't know the interview but it sounds to me "mild". What his agent said to Sun and BBC is what Berbatov told him to say. Danchev's statement was prepared very carefully and was far from being his own initiative or media bollocks.

who is he going to sign for then Berbati?

Manu; fergie wont accept his strops/attitude and if they persisted he would be out the door before you could say Staam or Van nistlerooy.

Liverpool are not going to win anything and play unattractive football.

Chelsea play unattractive football and are not going to win anything of 'significance'

and that leaves Arsenal who would not be able to bid more than about £14M and he would never be allowed to join them.

unless he goes abroad, (which would be quite funny as the british Hacks have obviously engineered this to try and get him to Manu)

just think if we'd never signed Berbatov where would he be now....

probably still a nobody at Leverkusen or maybe signed by Fulham at the start of this season.

AFAIAC he owes us big and to start all this BS at the start of our busiest and most important month of the season is pretty low (whoever started it)

Dude, if we hadn't signed him he'd be at Manchester United right now.

So it looks like the agent puts out the "come get him" statement first, then issues a slight retraction to pacify having already achieved his aim (maximum agitation) with the first statement. Placing the club between a rock and hard place. Usual m.o.

On one hand the club know that players like Berbatov are integral to achieving a CL challenge and winning trophies. On the other you have an unhappy player who's value is peaking between now and August.

It's a shitty situation.

I accept that you did say he wanted a buy-out clause. It doesn't mean it is true - but it could be. Are you saying you knew this as fact. If so, how ?

You've not grasped this qualifying statements thing yet, have you?

You have no more or less idea than any of the rest of us what Berbatov has or hasn't done.

Please make sure you learn from this, lest you piss off the members on Man U/Real Madrid/whoever-the-fuck-I'm-passed-caring boards in the future.

i disagree - utd rarely take chances on unproven players for big money.

look at Tevez - they werent interested in him until he did it for a year at the spammers.

Saha & Van der sar did it at fulham

Carrick with us

Ferdinand with Leeds

nearly all of the players above could have been purchased for a fraction of the price utd paid.

utd could have had carrick for £2.75m but were not interested and the same with berbatov they were offered him for £10.9m and were not interested.
