With a new Silly Season just around the corner, I was thinking, what is the craziest transfer rumour regarding Spurs of all time? And who is your favorite player to have been linked with a move to WHL?
Off the top of my head, the craziest rumour and fav player to be linked was probably the same one - 'Rivaldo to Spurs' was sooo disappointed when he didnt join
I remember the summer we signed Klinsmann, there were a lot of stories we were on the brink of landing Maradonna too, only for him to get suspended again after a drugs test.
That, and the alleged letter of 'thanks but no thanks' from Rivaldo.
Also, when Shevchenko was at his peak, I remember seeing a story on 'teletext' (yes, that long ago), saying we were confident of signing him from Milan to partner Rebrov.
patrick kluivert, before the internet took off, according to bbc teletext we had signed, then to close to agreed, to never with a chance in the space of a few hours.
I think Eto'o was more than a rumour. Remember him scoring against the Arse and dedicated the goal to us. Must have been a disagreement in the fees at the last moment that it didn't happen.
The deadline day Levy had his wheelbarrow in Spain. Ridiculous rumours; I remember being linked to Rossi, Llorente, Aguero and Negredo all for circa £30m bids and there was Forlan earlier in the day too.
I remember when we were really close to signing Diego from Santos. At the time he was meant to be 'the next big thing' coming out of Brazil. Having played with Santos on FM (or championship manager at the time) I was really excited by this one but it never happened. Seem to remember his dad being very involved in the deal. Still plays for Wolfsburg now. Love his wikipedia description too, haha. A proper Spurs type player if ever there was one judging by it! - 'He is a playmaker known for his pinpoint passes, back-heelers, overhead kicks and a whole box of other tricks as well as his scoring abilities'
