Just been reading thru the thread about the race for forth place between Villa and the woolwich.
Got me thinking that since Villa signed Heskey and switched to a 4-4-2 they've not been playing quite the same, in fact it could cost them 4th spot.
Could Heskey be the worst and most pointless signing of the season.

And on the flip side, you've got James Beatie going to stoke in the january window. He is rapidly looking like the one player who's gonna score the goals that will keep them in the prem.

A few others

The duds
---------
Dossena - liverpool
savio - west ham

The good'uns
---------------
Given - man city
Hangeland - fulham

Any others you can think of?

Bentley to Spurs is the worst signing of the season.

how can you say Savio has been a flop when he just arrived and is only 19 years old?

I don't include young players or foreigners as I feel it is unfair as they sometimes need more time. Bentley has Premiership experience and he has gone from being Beckhams natural successor to being kicked out the England squad and has done next to nothing for us. I feel he'll come good in the long run but for this season he has to be the worst signing unfortunately.

I haven't seen as much football this season as normal but Zaki, Beattie and Friedel are all good shouts.

I thought Villa played 4-4-2 in quite a lot of games this season before Heskey joined:

Milner-Petrov-Barry-Young

---Agbon----Carew-----

I know occasionally they played 4-3-3 as well. I think Heskey has been a decent signing for them, they have a very small squad and started early so they were always going to fade.

As for Savio, please explain how he is a flop??? Signed only about 2 months ago.

Money to performance ratio see's Bentley and Jo way at the top of the worst list. Bosingwa has been quality for Chelski and Milner was a good signing for Villa

Best Signing - Mauruane Fellaini

Really? Apart from the fact that he's 24ft tall, inc. hair, he's the most hot and cold player you'll ever see. Comedy value, fair enough, but other than that I personally don't rate him that highly.

Best: Berbatov. Obvious pick? 13 goals so far is pretty average by his standards, but take in to consideration his 9 PL assists, and you have yourself a player. Plus, he was pretty slow off the mark, so he's made up well.

Worst: Take your pick. Shorey, Bentley, Xisco, Keane(Pool), Jo(City), Healy...

i was struggling for a name to be honest.
still think he'll turn out to be a waste of money, though.

xisco is a great shout. totally forgotten about him.

But Dossena scored what was the vital goal for Liverpool against Madrid yesterday, surely writing off his transfer fee and bad reputation in the process - what a player!

Dave Kitson was a bit rubbish wasn't he? Did he even score?

Shorey's been a big disapointment at Villa aswell.

Valeri Bojinov.

I think he might actually be bigger than Andy Reid. Plus, he's got a girl's name.

Bojinov was a SGE signing last season though and has been very unlucky with injury. Was gutted when Citeh got him as he was brilliant in Serie A for Lecce, Fiorentina and Juve but he has not had a chance in the EPL yet.

Has always been a heavy set player much like Rooney but i guess having been out for almost a year he has let himself go a bit.

Best value for money signing/bargain: Bassong (Newcastle)
Best signing/bargain: Jo (loan - Everton)
Top class signing compared to the position of the Club: Cisse (loan - Sunderland)
Exciting signing: Maynor Figueroa (Wigan)
Impact signing: Zaki (Wigan)

Good signing, but the manager is not using him right: Mustapha Riga (Bolton)
Best free transfer signing: Geovanni (Hull City)
Short term impact signing: Beattie (Stoke) Good now, but not long term.
Surprise signing: N'Zogbia to Wigan
Great signing for the future: Marvin Emnes (Middlesbrough)
Overpriced signings: Bentley (Tottenham), Pavlyuchenko (Tottenham)
