Time short in Robson's cancer battle

Former England manager Sir Bobby Robson has admitted he will lose his battle with lung cancer "sooner rather than later".
Robson has been battling a fifth bout of the illness and has accepted doctors' prognosis that he is unlikely to beat it.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: "I have accepted what they have told me and I am determined to make the most of what time I have left. I am going to die sooner rather than later. But then everyone has to go some time, and I have enjoyed every minute."
He added: "I have been fortunate to survive this long. It is thanks to the doctors and their dedication."
Sir Bobby, who took England to the brink of a World Cup final in Italy in 1990, has enjoyed a football career spanning six decades - from playing days with Fulham and England, to managerial triumphs first with Ipswich and then as national coach at two World Cups, to continental coaching appointments.
He later returned to his native north-east to take over at Newcastle and most recently spent a short time as consultant for the Republic of Ireland.

Really really bad. Even when he managed the shitters up north I still respected him and liked him as a manager.

Always wanted him to manage Spurs back in the day but it never happened.

Hopefully he will still be around for many years to come.

Been waiting for this to happen. Personally I will shed a small tear when Sir Bob dies. Not many of his ilk around anymore.

Quality bloke. Best of luck, Bobby. Doctors are not always right.

One of my favourite people in football. I was watching a video of Italia 90 the other day (yep, desperate for footie) what an absolute legend and gent the guy is.

Ill be gutted when the inevitable happens.

I reckon he's got "Football" stamped all the way through him, like a stick of rock. Will be a sad loss to the game when it happens and I hope it won't be too soon.

A true gent and there's not enough of them left in football, it would be a great loss to the game.

All the best Sir Bobby!

It's a shame to hear about this, one of the great figures of English Football. Good luck Bobby.

Absolutely right.
What a shame.
A great man, and don ;t forget that superb team he had at Ipswich around the same time as we won the cup in 81...

An honest bloke on and off the field, and always had dignity. Sad that such a horrible ailment should strike such a gentleman; but glad he is taking it in a dignified manner.

This is very sad indeed, this is one of the legends of the game. He has so much respect from his peers all over the world and that says a lot about him.

I'll never forget his reaction after seeing Ronaldo taking on a whole team and slot home for Barca.
