... another PR own goal...

I think it was a (harmless) social media stunt. The dulux social media guys will be getting a bonus not fired. They managed to get an incredibly boring story lots of attention.

If this was the hours/day after we lost the cup final 3-0 to city I would believe a rival fan posting that meme. Just randomly on a thursday out of nowhere? I can't see it.

Like I say though it's completely harmless so well done to whoever came up with that.

I doubt it was a social media stunt as it will have been very damaging at exec level and incredibly poor etiquette by Dulux to mock a partner like that (will other companies think twice about dealing with Dulux now?). This will be a rogue employee at Dulux risking his job to poke fun at Spurs. The bigger damage will come from an over reaction to it (by the club and us fans) and the way Spurs official account handled it by superimposing the Dulux dog's head onto Doherty's body and said we'd gloss over it was perfect.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

It was funny and tbh, it felt like a metaphor for where we are at the moment anyway.

When will people realise this was all planned. Look at the coverage its got from it. Isn't that the primary goal of the media team?

I would pun the word coverage but I'm making a series point

Yeah, let’s face it there’s enough hatred, bitterness, outrage, boring shite and virtue signalling on social media already. Almost as if when confronted with some light hearted humour people can’t deal with it.
Twitter is Outrage Central. If you've not chiselled a monumental chip into your shoulder before you even log on, you're doing it wrong.

Maybe I'm just very cynical but so much stuff in corporate marketing is now fake "banter". You see it get posted on reddit. "Oh did you see how savage burger king was with mcdonalds" or what ever. It's very cheap but effective advertising.

I don't think this was planned, personally. I seriously doubt that Dulux are paying us anywhere near enough to justify making our brand the laughing stock of social media for a day. We're quite capable of doing that ourselves with no outside assistance.

Our best signing in years has been our new social media team.

We used to be such boring miserable fucks but the new guys handle this shit in the best possible way.

The only melts are the "Spurs fans" on Twitter saying it's embarrassing etc. God I hate social media.

I think the whole thing has been pretty funny and I love our "Dogherty" response.
Plenty of publicity for all concerned, for a pretty minor deal and apart from some snowflakes fans getting too easily offended, I don't see a problem at all.

Good signing but can they do it on a cold Tuesday night on Tumblr?
