I
Fully expecting us to sign neither Fernandes nor Lo Celso and then selling Eriksen after the window shuts, with Poch under instructions to 'make do' until January.
I really don't want to agree with this statement, but the closer we get without a breakthrough, I am reluctantly near to concluding that this is what will happen, although I'm fighting it and fending off this thought and retain just enough optimism that this won't happen, but that optimism being severely tested as we draw close to the end of this window so I'd say at this moment, that optimism still just about there but currently it's hanging in there by a few threads, and they are the BF GLC and CE threads in these forums . ...

So you think BF would fair better in that palace side?

If you look at the facts he creates a lot of his own chances and scores regularly from outside the box. Zaha has all the dribbling and athletic ability but a good finisher he is not. I really like him as a player and if you were building a team of exciting out of your seat players he would be high on the list. Palace send everything through him and his return has been average. I agree he could improve in a better squad but then he would have less space to operate in as the other team will camp their box and he will be competing for the ball and goals with star talent like Son, Kane, Alli and Moura. So to summarise his lack of finishing ability and not being the star man would even out the gain from being in a better team IMO.

Bruno Fernandes fits better from play style IMO, as he seems to be more about passing and link up with long range shooting. He would enable players like Harry Kane and Son with his passing ability and much like Eriksen could also score from further out. If you ask me about the player as a risk I would say Portuguese don't fair that well in the premiership especially with his build which would be a concern.

Those who have watched Fernandes regularly - is he a primarily a number 8 or a number 10? Where does he usually play in Sporting Lisbon's formation?

Fernandes played Europa last season and GLC didnt play any European competition, De Jong and De Ligt were obviously Champions League Semin finalists and Europa League Runners up the season before.

IF they are valued at 75M each going to Barca and Juve respectively then BF and GLC are over valued
Lo Celso has played in CL for PSG, and Betis were in the EL last season. Think they got to the last 32.

My worry about BF is that, watching him, the only thing that makes him stand out are his G+A numbers, which are exceptional. He's not particularly strong or fast, he's got a good strike on him and he's v wasteful in terms of ball retention.

However, his G+A production is about the only thing he won't be able to translate over to the Prem, which is slightly worrying. He's clearly a good player, but I'm not sure how well he'll adapt in the short-term.

I think your concerns are valid. It's why I prefer Lo Celso.

I’d prefer Lo Celso, but if Pochettino has said he’d be happy with Bruno instead then I’m all for it.

If it’s one of these two plus Coutinho then I’ll personslly begin building a statue of Baldy to replace the golden cockerel!

Janssen scored loads of goals in the Eredivisie - for me, it's the player's attributes which led to those G+As which is far more important. He doesn't strike me as having the technique or physicality to truly succeed in the Prem (immediately, at least).

Thinking Bruno is the backup plan if Coutinho doesn’t come off.
If he is they'll pull the plug on Coutinho tonight / tomorrow morning rather than risk not getting either, personally I'm still not convinced by the Coutinho deal is doable anyway.

My Portuguese work buddy is a Sporting fan and so watches them when he can. For context however it is important to point out that he, like the other Portuguese fans I work with (there are 6 in my department) has an overinflated opinion of all Portuguese players (e.g. Nani etc).

He thinks Bruno Fernandes is a "good" player who had a brilliant season. Some of his goals were penalties and many from in and around the box. However when asking him to compare Fernandes to other Sporting players, he doesn't really put him in the same bracket as the really good ones. He doesn't know if BF would be effective in the Premier League as the Portuguese league offers a lot more time and space than the EPL.

And at the prices being quoted, he thinks Sporting would be mental not to accept a bid of over €30m.

So basically BF is a good player who had a great season but he's not a standout player like Sporting have had in the past. Doesn't mean he can't go on to be superb of course... and this is all one person's opinion.

In 2018/2019 he played as offensive mid with a lot of freedom. it's normal to see him deep, making runs behind the defence, crossing, finishing, etc

Anyway, it seems that he goes to utd.

Why? Cause his ex-coach thinks he deserves to?

What if United aren't in for him? What if Fernandes thinks the best move for him is Tottenham? Not saying he won't go there but that is just an opinion piece.
