It was a nice gesture to give the lad that reassuring applause. It also shows our supporters in.a good sporting light.

It's generally a bit wierd to think of not supporting someone who was racially abused just because they play for a rival.

Some very closed minded opinions! Standing up to racism and supporting its victims is bigger than football, which is just a game!

Ralph, go that route on here and you'll be labelled a racist enabler or probably straight racist. Better to just leave it.

As a non-England supporting spurs fan I'm torn on this as I've never wanted a team he's played for to win although he does seem like a nice kid.

If I met him in the street I'd apologise for the disgraceful state of a portion of the population and wish him well and equally if I caught someone racially abusing him they'd get a swift karate kick but I'm not sure about clapping a scum player during a north London derby.

I guess overall given that it was a friendly game that was part of the mind series I think it was a nice touch but I wouldn't like to see it in a competitive match.

The games gone ?

Seriously though I personally couldn’t clap him onto the pitch. I’d clap him off after we’ve stuffed them…

100% not in a league or cup game anyway!

Even ignoring the racism angle he's a teenager put into a tough position while serving for his - our - country in a major final, a burden he will carry for the rest of his life.

Imagine how heartening it must be for him that even his team's greatest rivals can find it in themselves to "forgive" (not that there's anything to forgive) him and express support/gratitude.

I have no issues admitting I teared up at that moment during today's game.

he is an Arsenal player no way should Spurs supporters applaud him
Wrong, don't drag spurs supporters to your lack of understanding to the concept of why applauding him. Just because you don't get it, don't class spurs supporters to your level.
Somethings are just bigger than rivalry.

It was a spontaneous gesture by the people at the game, or most of them anyway. Not planned or staged. I'd rather be associated with that than, I dunno, the club whose supporters went to the trouble of making a life-size David Beckham and hanging it by the neck off a pub sign because he got sent off in a WC match.
