Ruhrpottderby today. Schalke was up by 2-0 in the 25th minute. Aubameyang scored a very pretty goal just now. Hope Schalke can keep it up.

Schalke had a very good half, especially when considering that neither Draxler nor Höwedes are playing.

In fairness this is the most out of form Dortmund there has been for years, but everyone is always up for these games. Just seems like we want it that little bit more so far. Also helps that so far their two strikers are a pair of duds :)

Piazon scored an incredible goal , was watching the game and felt gutted for Hamburg though.

Was nothing short of gut-wrenching. Even worse than the Paderborn humiliation.

Made up for it today though! First win of the season, and pitting Dortmund into further misery.

Dortmund today actually looked eerily similar to us, just completely devoid of ideas through the middle and resorting to the cross. :meh:

Can't believe how much Dortmund are struggling in the league, Hamburg are now only 2 points behind them! There's already no chance of them catching Bayern who look like they'll be walking to another title.

Truth. I'm not sure I've ever seen such a quality team so devastated to this degree by injury. They are just massively depleted all over the board. If not for Weidenfeller, they could have lost that match by even more.

I don't have much pity for Dortmund, but I do hope Klopp doesn't bear the brunt of this. There's just not much he can do with such a depleted corps to choose from.

And yes, there's no one who can legitimately challenge Bayern this year. Gladbach is very good, and Leverkusen may hit a stride, but neither of them look likely to mount a sustained challenge. Wolfsburg has been disappointing, and both Ruhr sides are relatively weak. If Schalke can get everyone healthy, and find a decent No 8 to make things tick, they have many pieces in place though to make a late surge up the table. Unless Dortmund sees massive return of their stars soon, will be far too little too late.

Di Matteo. Poor appointment in my opinion, hope I'm wrong

Came in here just to ask your opinion, thanks for saving me the time ;)

Tuchel has to have a big buyout IMO. Was one thing for HSV to pass over the option, but for Schalke to do so for the sake of di Matteo is another thing altogether. Can honestly think of no other reason why they would pass him over.

Buyout from where? He's unemployed haha

We tried to get him before whilst Keller was in charge and he said no, I can only assume he's not interested for whatever reason which is a massive shame as he's head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion. Oh man, I would have loved to have gotten him

He is actually still "employed" for another year as the contract was not terminated by either side, he is just simply no longer fulfilling the obligation of coach. So in truth, Mainz does have say in any potential suitors to his employment at another club.

As to his interest, I cannot even attempt to conceive any possible reason for why he would not be interested in coaching Schalke. Maybe wouldn't like the pressure, and is possibly why he stepped away from Mainz? Other than that, I cannot imagine.

Oh yeah, you're right, I'd forgotten that, but I highly doubt there would have been much of a buyout from Mainz, especially with only one year left. Can only imagine that for some reason we see Di Matteo as a bigger name, or perhaps Tuchel wants a break from football. Afterall, him wanting to leave Mainz doesn't make a whole lot of sense

So let me get this right, Di Matteo has been given the job as Schalke manager

WTF

He is shocking as a manager and worth noting that his west brom team shipped a shit load of goals.

Don't think they looked past the CL win unfortunately for us. Horst Heldt will go with too once he gets the boot I suspect

Well, he managed to pull together a very poor team at the time and inflict possibly the single most detrimental result in our club's history.

It may not have been a poor idea IMO though to promote someone from within such as what Hamburg did. With the academy of Schalke's, I see no reason it wouldn't have worked, and especially compared to choosing di Matteo. Schalke, like Hamburg, is pushing below their weight in quality, so really just need fresh influx of motivation and utilization of many current players rather than an entirely new system. Schalke really is just one player away from a world class side IMO. Just need a No 8 that can control the game and get the ball more quickly to their good attackers, and they're in great shape.

But that's what Keller was. I'm not surprised they didn't repeat that again. What we need is an experienced manager, who has a wealth of experience across Europe and who will instantly have the respect of our players. We have been horribly unlucky with injuries though which hasn't helped, and surprise surprise, when we actually had a healthy squad during the second half last year, we recorded the best second half in our history.
