We could have got rid of him a lot earlier by using his dubious tweets that the club ordered him to take down as grounds for dismissal. He was very clear that he had no affinity for the club and only played for the money and I'm glad to see the back of him - character or no character. Just a shame we couldn't get rid of the other "characters" like Adebayor, Kaboul and Capoue.

I think the free transfer window is longer than the normal one?

If so, might give him time to find an even more desperate club after tonight.

Shame, at one point he was linked to some pretty big clubs as a performer for Spurs. A big fall from grace ahead of his time.

A spurs legend in his own right, but unfortunately won't get a testimonial due to the last couple of seasons...

Good player (at one time) for Spurs, but Spurs legend ? Hardly.

Loved Benny, always one of my favorites. Very unique personality and he loved the club (still does I think). Shame it ended like this.

To all of you attacking Benny for having no affinity for the club or for football in general, how many of you absolutely love the company you're working for and the industry you work in? Benny has his faults but it was refreshing to hear a footballer state his real opinion rather than spout generic BS.

He was our first choice left back in pretty much every game that got us to 2 fourth placed finishs and the QF of the Champions League.

As soon as he fell out of favour, all of a sudden we had a long run of problems at left back, too.

Under appreciated at times, and another victim of AVB - just like Parker & Van der Vaart, to name but a couple.

Football fans can be so stupid sometimes, they talk of loyalty when it suits them. Where is your loyalty to players like Kaboul, Capoue, Adebayor, Lennon, etc..? Footballers are not fans and ultimately money talks, I don't hear anyone say that footballers should only move if it makes sense to them from a professional and financial level, they just say these players should "fuck off". The fans totally forget everything some players have done for the club. This is why I don't blame the players for just not going "anywhere". They have signed the contract which was agreed by everyone.
And some fans wonder why some players turn us down?

It's also worth noting that he was still tweeting support for the club despite being frozen out for 2 years

For me the likes of Ekotto,Adebayor,Lennon and Kaboul are a total disgrace because they won't leave and are happy to remain here raking in their wages, this in turn restricts the club from bringing in replacements who could serve the club better and improve our chances of being successful
Do not be fooled, these players are not fans of Tottenham Hotspur and they DO NOT have our best interest at heart.

he gave me more heart in the mouth moments on the pitch than any other player I can recall but to be fair he had a couple of really good seasons but his fall has been a drastic one & I can see both sides of the argument here, he's gone now so onwards & upwards and all that

Sad to see this guy go. Was definitely one of the best left-backs I can remember playing for us. Worked really well with Bale on the left, and IMO often created space for him to work with. Was grateful to have been at WHL for his goals against Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle.

A shame about the last two years. Disappointed with the classless idiots on Twitter with their replies to the Spurs Official tweet, but not surprised by that really.

Ekotto has left (hence thread)

There's no evidence that Benny refused to leave - by all accounts, it looked like they wouldn't let him until the window closed.

Was there for his lane debut in the brown kit all those years ago and said to my mates, "finally a decent left back that can play a bit". At that point he liked a tackle was tenacious and had some amazing skill. Really enjoyed watching him and it hurt a bit to see him playing for QPR with pretty much no motivation. I think towards the end he just thought whats the point and had given up caring. Probably has enough money to retire and enjoy life and probably will.

Good luck Benny, really enjoyed watching you play in the true spurs "to dare is to do" fashion and not bore the pants off us.

People saying to us show our loyalty and he doesn't have to.

It's not that he isn't showing loyalty, I could live with that, it's that he is showing no class. Posting pictures of freedom and amen sign when someone says trolling spurs fans, causing disruptions behind the scenes. I used to like him, played well but ultimately turned into a bit of a dick.

Indeed, he got kick out in the last hr... I think he refuses to leave at some pt and hence the bad blood with Levy.

If you'd been frozen out for so long (and we don't know the full details) then would you do similar?

I don't think he's been treated well since Harry left, so I don't begrude him for his fecking profile picture when he played so many good seasons for us. That'd be the epitome of petty

So, if your boss says to you 'We've found somebody who can do your job better. We agreed to pay you for 4 years but there's a company down the road who would pay you a lot less instead. How do you feel about letting us off the hook?', how would you reply?

There would've been a reason for him being frozen out. Not like AVB or Poch would've just looked at him and be like "oh yeah, youre frozen out now" and he probably would've been told why.

If I'd been frozen out, I would've looked to move, did he do that this season? If knew was frozen why not find a club in summer, he had ages. Why don't other clubs seemingly not want him? I think he got treated like he probably deserved if he had behind the scene antics.
