Been chatting to my mate on the way back from the Lane today about past teams and how this team stacks up.

Since going to WHL in 1978 for the first time I remember the 'great' teams of the early 80's with Crookes, Ardiles, Hoddle, Villa and Archibald.

The '87 team with Allen, Waddle, Hoddle, Mabbutt and Gough.

There have been some teams with great players but never such a team.

Modric, King, BAE, Walker, Kaboul, Gallas, Dawson, Friedel, Parker, Bale, Lennon, Ade, VDV, Sandro and not forgetting Huddlestone.

A real team.

What is the best team you have seen at the Lane.

Our best chance of winning the league since 1987 no question, we were the best team in the league that year but this season the league has much stronger teams in it, especially Man City

Just missed the Double Team but since then no! This is definitely the best team/squad that I have seen. Would loved to have seen the Push And Run team though. Never saw Arthur Rowe apart from on TV but he is still a big hero of mine.

We've peaked a year too late. We are in with a great shout, but it's come at the wrong time with Citys billions and it's such a shame, because I think this is the best I've seen.

Er was I putting a team sheet together? I am talking about all of our class players that make up our team. Not all will play but we have real quality that is passing teams to death. another 68% possession today.
I read your posts mate and to be honest you are like a real bus conductor - redundant

I did see the Double team and, although a completely different football era in so many ways, they did the Double and won the first British European trophy the following season with a total of something like 14 players through those seasons and no subs.

It took some doing and they were a delight to watch - beautiful game indeed.

I've seen great Tottenham players like Gazza, Ginola, Klinsmann, Hoddle & Waddle, but this is the best complete team I've ever seen us have.

A team that nearly got 4th place despite the rest of the league being at a much higher comparative level then than it is now. Other teams were allowed to have good players in their ranks and weren't forced to sell immediately to City/Chelsea whenever a player hit top form.

Have been saying for the last few seasons, we are putting together a squad that could be better than the one of 1987, and probably better than the early to mid 80s team that one the UEFA.

I now think we have done that.

The current one takes some beating...

Our current strongest 11 (Friedel, Walker, BAE, Kaboul, King, Bale, Modric, Parker, VDV, Adebayor, and one of Lennon, Defoe or Sandro) has yet to be beaten by anyone.

Easily the best Spurs team since I've been supporting them (1990). I could worry about what might happen if/when Harry goes, whether we'll be able to hold on to our best players, or sign Adebayor on a permanent...I could worry about the new stadium, the dodgy purple kit, or whether we'll manage to keep up this form for much longer...

..but I won't. I'm just going to enjoy every single minute of this team and the way we are playing.

I don't want to be the old timer on here but for me this team still hasn't hit the heights of fluidity that Pleat's 1987 team did. Good as Luka is he hasn't hit the Hoddle level yet, you youngsters go to YouTube and watch Hoddle's goal against Oxford at WHL to see what I mean. As awesome as Bale is he hasn't hit the heights of Waddle. As magnificent as King and Kaboul have been they don't yet inspire the same confidence as Gough and Mabbutt. Finally, we have nobody in the team as clinical as the Clive Allen of 1987.

Overall I think this team has the potential to be better than the 1987 team but they aren't there yet. Again for the youngsters on here purring about our fluidity yesterday go and watch our game against Wet Spam at WHL in the League Cup, we played like Barca, I kid you not.

A toss up between 1950/51 and 1960/61.

But i think the latter takes it due to Dave Mackay.

Any team with Dave Mackay in it has to be the best.
