It was a selfish celebration,

From games and players past where we had been in a similar situation they would celebrate yes, maybe get the ball from the goal, maybe run back to the halfway line with a rallying call kind of vibe.

Maybe I'm weird but as I watched it on the stream that was the thought that came to my head, he was seeking adulation.
As I missed his celebration due to my shameless celebration I had another look last night. I still have no idea what you are on about. His celebration was quick, a punch of the air and a jump more fitting with absolutely smashing one in in a tense situation. If he did a little practised dance with a few of his mates you might have a point but there was bugger all in it.

Would have let you write your own ticket six months ago if you'd told me Chadli would be the best of the 7.
I said that. You didn't bring it up at the time, so can i write my ticket now?

(Jokes. i said Capoue would be the best of the 7 )

Good goal granted but I didn't appreciate the way he wheeled away as if he had saved/won the game for the team/club. It displayed a selfishness and unawareness of the situation we were in.

Sums up the kind of players we have at the moment.
It was hardly a 'look at me I'm a absolute ****' dance celebration like Sturridge's was it..... Cut the guy some slack, he scored a fantastic volley and he was pumped for a few seconds. We have plenty of other nobs in our side you can point the finger at....

I understand what you're saying but generally when a team is losing at home, they run into the goal and try to get the ball as quickly as possible down to the centre. He turned away and started trying to take applause. I like Chadli, but I couldn't understand his thought process, it's like he thought we were only 1-0 down.

Remember Bent's goal against Arsenal? the 3rd in the 4-4? I know you do because you were there... He ran, got the ball, and acknowledged the crowd as he sprinted back to the centre spot if I recall right. That's what I want to see when we're losing, capitalising on momentum.

I thought Chadli was trying to get everyone a bit more pumped up. Granted we had scored a goal, which usually does , but it seemed like he was sending a message to the crowd like 'we've got something, now come on lets all have a go at it for the final few minutes'.

I don't know why we seem to analyse celebrations these days though...

Are we seriously having a go at Chadli for being happy about a volley he just mashed into the goal? :bored:

I saw it as him trying to wake the fans up. Maybe it worked, there was even a "Oooooh when the Spurs" shortly after.

And it was a good goal, Kevin Keegan was absolutely raving about it as a pundit over here.

The irony is of course that it makes no difference to the time whatsoever as the refs watch will have stopped, though unlike some you've acknowledged that the grabbing the ball is more about momentum than time.

Jenas scored the 3rd in the 4-4 btw, a beauty.

Ahh yeah, Bent's was the one to make it 3-2?

I know what you mean about the irony, I guess it's just a natural reaction.

My reaction went something like "YES! get the fuck in! what a fucking goal! Nik, Chadli just scored a belter! Oh fuck off mate, get the ball, get the fucking ball!!! what are you celebrating for?!!!!1"

Well, we might have equalised if Chadli rushed the ball back to the centre circle. We might have conceded too. All Hypothetical. What I do know is that goal was the high point yesterday and some people seen intent on taking the gloss off.

i cannot believe what I am reading!! He just scored a goal ffs, a very good goal. If he sprinted to get the ball what difference would it have made?? The game at best would have started fractionally earlier at best. People need to grow up. He celebrated and whilst celebrating was running back to the half way line.

He wasn't exactly doing a Lee Sharp celebration by the corner flag was he?

He just slammed an absolute rocket into the roof of the net from a bonkers angle, when there was only the smallest of gaps to aim at, when we're 2-0 down and really struggling. Of course he's going to go nuts, all that frustration and energy just erupted from him and 30,000 others in that ground. The roar was deafening.

Selfish my arse.

Are we really criticizing his celebration? I thought it was a well needed boost of energy the way he was passionate about it and really got the crowd into it. The same people complaining about Chadli's celebration are the ones that will complain about no one showing passion or desire. Just negative.

It was a great goal too, to be fair.

Yes, 5~10 second was worth to boost our energy. I think his celebration is not just for him but also for our team.
Plus, I think 5~10 second celebration was much more worthy than 5~10 second playing at the time.

I think our other 2 players almost on the Stoke goal line when Chadli scored should have picked up the ball. They were closer to the goal than Chadli ! But maybe they were both continuing the efforts of the team to hide away from the ball and extended it to not picking up the ball.
By the way if I'm not mistaken Chadli crossed from the right when Kane inexplicably missed , he crossed from the left when Adebayor unsurprisingly missed and he scored a great goal. Could have been 3-2 despite our shitty performance. No doubt who would have been MOTM .
But go ahead, criticize our only player that performed . The only player that created anything, the only one who looked like scoring....

I fully understand where people are going with the celebrations when your playing shit and losing you'd expect players to retrieve the ball quickly to kick off...thats were the mentality question marks come in again with our footballers...we have footballers and not players.
