I can't see it being very cheap to redevelop the site, though I suppose Abramovich has been left with little choice.

Can't see this working at all, yet another pie in the sky redevelopment plan for poor old Battersea Power Station. The most sensible option i've heard is the plan to temporarily turn it into a park, whilst suring up the existing structure. That way a viable plan can be put in place instead of another planning application pipedream, allowing the building to further deteriorate in the process.

Fucking hell i remember doing projects at what Battersea could be turned into when at Uni, and that was a fucking long time ago. Strangely enough i don't recall anyone viably suggesting a football Stadium, flats/shops seemed the most likely before the property crash.

I could design an amazing stadium out of battersea power station, it would be legen------wait for it-----daaaarrrry

I would incorporate the current structure of the power station in to all four corners but have a glass front on the north side, it would be epic

I will be absolutely gutted if this happens. As an architect my dream job would be to design a football stadium. I was really quite disappointed when the designs for our new place were released. Just another generic pudding bowl. Chelsea do not deserve to have such a glorious stadium on principle of them being absoluter scummers.

If you read the statement the ground will be on the site, not in the actual power station. Also the previous developers backed out due to an estimated cost of £5.5bn, so how they plan to make this viable is beyond me.

Cue the 'electric atmosphere', 'blue powerhouse' and 'sparking debate' clichés.
Oh, and they can have Sparky for manager too.

I must admit it's kinda cool. Apart from the Sparky bit

Presumably they'd make a fortune turning their old stadium into flats, etc

Chelsea is prime real-estate

I'm pretty sure that as soon as they dig anywhere near Battersea the power station will come crashing down. Wasn't the land bought by a Japanese consortium a few years back and they gave up on whatever plans they had because it was impossible to do anything without damaging the station, and the station itself is listed?

Totally agree but I don't think they would make the stadium as a part of the existing structures, also they just said one stand behind the goal will be a kop stand with 15,000 seats

I know, just as a designer I think this WOULD make an amazing stadium

I wonder if it's even possible to fit a pitch and end stands inside the existing turbine hall. If so I would probably do this with the existing brick ends and chimneys retained and then build two absolutely huge stands coming out the sides. That would be a magnificent stadium and not a curve in sight!
