I wouldnt recommend they did it in the event of ONE "mistake" by the ref.
But in the instance, lets say the Stoke match last season, where the ref CLEARLY has an agenda, decision after decision is wrong and going against you, I think then, if the players walked off the pitch, with full TV footage to back them up over the refs performance, the FA etc would have a very difficult time backing the ref.

People moan constantly, by people I mean managers and players, of being robbed by the ref against the bigger clubs.
Nothing has changed and IMO, nothing will change until some one stops moaning and actually does something.
If a ref comes out on a Monday morning in the Sun and says "sorry Spurs fans, I had a howler" that means nothing does it?
We've still been unfairly beaten and get again have to go home with nothing and put up with the "Spurs havent won there for 78 million years" in the papers.

No I know what you are saying, but it is a recipe for disaster. It's similar to why no player uses the agreement to buy themselves out of a contract, because no club would touch them.

If we walked off during a "Stoke" and that was not punished by the FA and i mean severely, then other teams would see that and soon enough it would become a laughing stock, no matter how noble the original intent.

The FA would rake us over coals and the media would spin it that we were being petulant spoiled brats.

I theoretically support the idea, it just won't work. You have to take it on the chin and find other methods to get "justice".

Perhaps doing a Wolves would work - make 11 changes. Stick the kids out.

By the rules you have to put out your strongest available starting 11. But if you have no chance of winning, you might as well not risk your best players in a "nothing" match.

Now this is a possibility... play your 2nd string... after all the rules state you have 25 man squad you just say you're rotating.

TBH though i would rather try properly and sometimes it just takes one result to actually go your way and things can change. It only has to happen once!

The ref adds to our problems and i for one dont see us getting anything more than a draw (and thats if we are lucky) i expect the ref to have a poor game but i want to see us at least compete for 90 mins (not our customary good half Manure) and ensure we dont leak goals. nowt we can do about the ref and so no point worrying about him but just expect the same treatment we normally get up there!

....and the FA rubs further salt into the wound. Clattenberg and Webb make the WC 2014 team.

"Chris Foy is another ref expected to achieve the qualifying standard when he hands key decisions to ManU in their match with Spurs on Saturday evening"

http://www.thefa.com/News/my-football/referees/2012/sep/webb-clattenburg-wc2014-list.aspx

Mark Clattenburg and Howard Webb are among a group of 52 referees from around the globe in line for a place at 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Select Group duo are in attendance at a week-long seminar at FIFA headquarters in Zurich.

The workshop, which was opened by the FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, encompasses Medical Tests, Fitness Tests and Practical and Tactical Positioning sessions on the football pitch, as well as theoretical classroom based sessions.

46 different countries are represented by the 52 referees at the seminar, which is under the leadership of FIFA’s Head of Refereeing, Massimo Busacca. They will all be treated to a varied programme designed to prepare them for their upcoming tasks, and particularly for their work at the World Cup, should they make the final cut.

Clattenburg and Webb are themselves no strangers to the big matches.

Clattenburg was the man in the middle for the London 2012 Olympic Men's Football Final when Mexico beat Brazil 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

The worrying thing is that Foy had an equally poor game when he was in charge of the Stoke v Bolton game on the last day of the season. His decisions caused Bolton to be relegated instead of Rangers. Let's hope it's just Stoke that he favours.

BTW I thought that Dowd was excellent last Sunday.

all refs are shit.

some worse than others.

BUT even if we got AVB to ref it we still won't or would not win. botte job- easy 2 or 3 nil win , we might score one goal .

In all fairness Bolton did deserve to go down, but I agree, Chris Foy gave them the killing blow in that match. Horrible ref, I'm very surprised he is still refereeing games in the Premier League.

Maybe he's just a homer, although I seem to remember him having some absolutely horrendous games with Chelsea and Manchester City. I think it was when Chelsea played QPR last season, and in fact the other was when Man City played Man Utd in the FA cup and he incorrectly sent off Kompany. So pretty sure he favors United, and when we played Stoke away last season, we were considered to be in the title race at that point. So in fact I'm positive, he'll fuck us over any which way he can.

To be fair Dowd usually does a pretty decent, objective job.

is there any ref people would be happy with when playing man united?

I've got a lot of time for Mike Oliver. Best current Premier League ref by a country mile in my opinion. Dowd isn't bad either as itsBoris said above.

I'm still optimistic that Foy will subconsciously give us the rub of the green out of guilt for the Stoke match. To be fair the Chelsea / QPR match was even worse, I reckon he roots for the underdogs which will be us this time

Although it was Oliver who gave that ridiculous penalty in the Man Utd Wigan game for which Welbeck should have been booked for diving and subsequently been sent off for an awful clattering on one of the Wigan players.

Well he's 27. He's going to make some mistakes if he referees for the next 20+ years.
