Question for those that may know. Is he better than Chadli and what would be the difference in cost between the two?

I don't know much of either, but at first glance, I'd say Chadli is currently better, and they would cost pretty much the same

Chadli is by far more ready to contribute for us. Atsu most likely signal the end of Townsend here. He's a left-footed player and if we want to have a like-for-like backup to Bale on the RW in a 4-3-3, he might make some sense. His star definitely faded this past season. But, it mostly was attributed to Kelvin showing some very promising signs in his development. Between Kelvin, Varela, Atsu and Rodriguez, playing time was a bit scarce.

Atsu leaves Porto pre-season for England to facilitate transfer

The Ghanaian winger is reported by a French football website to have left his club for England to facilitate his move.

Ghana winger, Christian Atsu has left FC Porto’s pre -season camp for England to as his move to the Premier league gathers pace.

According to footafric365, Porto will soon make the move official with the already ruled out the Dragao outfit for the upcoming season.

The 21-year-old refused to extend his contract as he seeks for a new challenge with the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and all interested.

Footafric365 further states that it is not very clear which of the three teams Atsu is going to sign for as he is in advanced talks with all of them.

Atsu was not included in the provisional FC Porto team for the 2013/2014 season and was not present when the players took to stage to show case their jersey numbers on Sunday night.

We've been linked with him for a good year or so now, and it's interesting to see that Porto have left him out of their provisional squad for next season, basically confirming that he'll be leaving this Summer after he refused new contract talks.

There have been some whispers about Townsend possibly leaving to seek 1st football this Summer, something he admitted recently. So maybe there is a little something behind our links with the likes of Atsu & McManaman.

I always considered him an out-and-out winger rather than a wide forward. But if AVB likes him (Gave him his professional debut for Porto) than that's enough for me.

Would make alot of sense if true, cover for Chadli and at 3/4M you cant really grumble. Personally a think he's talented and would make a great addition.

His development has really been stalled the past year or so because of Vitor Pereira's reluctance to give him a run of minutes. Obviously he's got a good idea of how he looks in training, but I do believe there's a good player in there.

We've seen AVB take Lennon and Bale and turn them into much better, more consistent players. If he can do the same with Atsu with his raw talent, he could be a great addition. Nonetheless, it never hurts to bring in young players with a ton of pace and hope that if they aren't starting they can be impact subs.

.

Debut under AVB, so he obviously knows his skill set and potential. If he's available, and for a reasonable price, and above all else it is an AVB triggered signing, then happy days.

Would so much rather have Ljajic but it does seem like that ship has sailed. Even so I don't think Atsu would really add much to the team that the money couldn't be used better else where.

Sky Sports Understands:

"We are hearing reports that Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Porto winger Christian Atsu. Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is a big fan of the Ghana international having worked with him during his time in charge of Porto. Atsu could be available for a cut-price £1million with the player refusing to sign a new deal at Porto and his current contract due to expire in less than 12 months."

Still no for me, dont want him even for a mil, would rather pool from our youth team and save the wages for elsewhere.

Seeing as he left training on the 3rd August to find a club in England, it's taken a bloody long time to get here. Maybe he hitch hiked or walked from Portugal? £1m - not even easyjet for you Christian....:playful:

I say he's def worth a punt.

Is it true that Atsu currently holds the record for the most amount of stepovers in a game, with 7,342, which narrowly beat Taarabt's record set in 2011?

I don't think it would be beyond Levy to sign him for £1m, give him a long contract, and immediately try to sell him for nearer his market value (£9/10m).
