I think it's a pretty smart signing. Can cover all 3 positions at the top if need be, scores goals, and he's probably going to have less injury problems than rafa.

Not sure where he fits in with the tactics we are playing and the tactics we are going to be playing this season?
Not convinced that he is versatile enough to give us more options and add balance to our squad.
This deal smacks of desperation because Moutinho is not coming even though he is a different style of player. Its the whole "just get someone in" mentality.
Personally I am really disappointed with this signing, not because I think he is a poor player but because I think the key position that we needed was a ball playing midfielder who could act as the pivot between defense and attack, and I think that Dempsey does not fill this role.
Not feeling great at the moment about our overall balance of our midfield options.

Well, this shocked me. However, Dempsey is nothing if not versatile. He's been underrated for years and is easily the best American player around. Even as an American, that is not saying a hell of a lot. That being said, he will prove you doubters wrong. The major asset for him is that he is one tough S.O.B. Doubt him all you want, he's a fighter.

If he was our nailed on number 10 then I'd understand people's disappointment but bringing in Dembele, Sigurdsson and Dempsey in one window is good for our midfield options.

Not a big fan of players like that...can play five different positions in a mediocre way.

23 goals in 46 games last season, cost 6 million and can play several posistions, will be a good signing.

My question would be what positions can he play to make him versatile? A few guys have mentioned it, but I fail to see where he can fill in where we actually need?

not a big name but a better than average player entering the peak of his career, for very little money. a hell of a lot more exciting than Saha or Nielsen to me.

This is a good signing that is made to look bad by our failure to get Moutinho or any other deep lying, play-making, midfielder.

I suggested Dempsey ages ago because he was available and had a similar record to Adebayor who would cost far more. I was thinking Dempsey playing just behind Defoe but this is even better although it's costing us more. It's worth pointing out that we've just bought two of the top 5 leading scorers from last season. Which is pretty good considering we weren't going to get Van Persie, Agüero or Rooney

The really annoying thing is, is that we have some really great signings this season and no two ways about it, but we needed a creative midfielder and true out and out striker so so badly to make the other signings complete.

Good signing! Can fill in for Ade and will provide goals from the front right position.
And to ppl calling him a weak VdV replacement, you dont get it. Gylfi will replace VdV while Dempsey will provide cover for Ade and challenge Lennon for his starting spot.

Between 10 - 12 only Van Persie and Rooney have scored more than Dempsey. Other than that finihsed 4th on the PL Player of the Season last time around.
