Not sure if anyone else has heard about this case but the first I knew of it was yesterday. The article is a bit long and a bit boring but the gist of itis that Sheffield Wednesday began court proceedings against 4 fans for derogatory comments made on their Owls forum.

Thought it might be an interesting discussion point bearing in mind some of the rants we post on here.

This was ages ago wasn't it?

A few of my mates are regulars on owlstalk at the time but soon left for fear of being sued

It was the end of last year apparently. It has all been dredged up again because they dropped the case against one of them due to his ill health. Dunno about the others though

Derogatory comments or defamatory comments surely one is ok one is not.
To say I think the board is shit or even the board is shit, is derogatory and just opinion but to say the board are denuding the playing staff of the best players to sell and add to their off shore pension fund is defamatory do we know which of these examples were breached? I know it gave examples in the piece but it doesn't give the context.

those examples do not tell the full truth. For those that don't know, members of 'Wednesdayite' - a Wednesday fan group are shareholders int he club. The group has a 10% stake given to them (for free) by Dave Allen. Therefore some of these members are privvy to some 'sensitive' information and some of this was plastered over owlstalk along with derogatory comments and that is what the hoo har was about.

Which puts the story in a completely different context still lets face it reknowned eco-warrior George Monbiot never let the truth get in the way of a good story to push his own agenda.
