I just wanted to ask what peoples views were about what affects a players confidence and how we can improve our players and the teams confidence.
I write this because our team is full of players who have the potential to be world beaters but, this season especially, seem to be suffering badly.

My view is that we have a squad good enough for at least the top 7, or higher. This season, Bentley, Bale, Jenas, amongst others have been seriously underperforming I believe due to a lack of confidence. They all should be brilliant players but get slated on here every day as if they are not. What can a coach do to get the best out of these players? Why can they not seem to make a pass or a tackle, and how can their confidence be improved?

On the flip side, the likes of Dawson, Lennon, Zokora and O'Hara seem to be at their best this season. Is it because they are fighters and find strength in the face of adversity? Last season Dawson and Lennon were out of form when we were playing better, so what do they have that makes them perform at the moment? Is it just timing?

Is there a way we can give the other players some form and improve their confidence, or do we have to wait and hope they do regain their form? Is form not even an issue? Obviously this is the tricky bit.

The other strange thing about form I wanted to mention is our confidence in the Carling Cup, where most players appear to be full of confidence and we have scored many goals. Then as soon as we play a league game the same players are back to their usual disappearing acts!

Strange thing, confidence.

Confidence can be built in many ways but you can instill yourself with an "inner steel" as it were, that means you will always have confidence in yourself and show this by battling... Certain players have it, some do no. Harry as been talking about Men in the squad and this is what he was getting at. Players who always have the confidence to believe they can win against insermountable odds.

I think Levy should contact a bloke called Tony Robbins and get him in for a few days work on the player Pysche (sp?)... Will probably cost a million but the results I think would be remarkable. Look at Watford a couple of years ago!

Im living proof of the bloke in fact lol

At first Harry did seem to give them some confidence, but if we're lucky when we sign a new player (maybe Palacios) then they may bring some confidence with them and the team will benefit from that new confidence and get some fucking results!!

The players are over pampered it seems. They have CL facilities and wages yet not enough demand or return is placed upon them . Redknappp was absoluately correct when saying the squad is unbalanced and looking through the squad you can identify with the technical players but not enough workaholics...(Zokora, Jenas, Lennon apart who IMO cover marathons) to be counted on . We are playing EPL games with such casualness and a lack of concentration which have cost us dearly.

Many of the games I've watched this seasons not all 11 players have collectively played full out and we have been left carrying players in games, which can not be tolarated as you will be left wanting in this league-That has been the biggest sin i've noticed this season (for years tbh-apart from our famous 5th finishes two season in a row)

If/When you watch the top 4 plus Everton, technically they are not better then Spurs but the work rate of their TEAM's is much more better than ours.

I think the crowd have a huge part to play in boosting the player's confidence. Look at Gomes for one. As soon as we started singing 'we love you Gomes' and he knew we were on his side, his form improved dramatically. Any player would love to hear his name sung by the crowd. It must make them proud to hear their name.

Someone should come up with songs for the players who don't have their own song, so we're ready to sing their praises. Sometimes I think we spend too much time singing about other teams or players and not enough about our own.

When the noise of the crowd rose in the last 20 minutes on Sunday, the team responded brilliantly.

I think this is very true of Jenas, who is often slated by many fans, which does not help him in the slightest. If we all got behind him a bit more maybe we'd start to see a bit more consistency from him
