I really like Gallagher, but if we can get Phillips on loan with an option instead, that imo would be more sensible and allow us to use our funds to bring in the required quality in the priority positions we need to recruit in.
Phillips must be thinking I have to start in every game to go Euros. Truly doubt he gets that here. Weirdly best club for him would be Man U

In many ways I think this deal makes a lot of sense.

We need 4 high quality midfielders with a lot of energy to take up the 2 spots. He appears to fit Ange's system, is homegrown and is available. Though whether Chelsea would sell to us is debateable. I believe under the current ownership they would.

Centre back is a higher priority but hopefully we can find buyers for a couple of players for this deal to still happen.

I still err on the side that it won't though.

Do we think Gallagher is target no1, but Phillips could be on the back burner as the Vicario type quick switch from Raya deal.

This is a hard one. Gallagher has a punchable face, but i would take half a Gallager before any Kalvin "Back/sidewaypass" Philips!

Philips is quality and capable of making an impact in my opinion, particularly with Bissouma being off to the AFCON

Gallagher makes a lot of sense if we can agree a deal but that’s a big if

He's absolutely worth 40mil to not see Skipp/Hojbjerg play meaningful minutes for us. Such a drop off in quality when those 2 come on
100%. Doesn’t even have to be him. But we desperately need midfield help. Skipp and PEH are so atrocious. We simply cannot afford to keep playing them.

I'd snap Chelsea's arm off if they'd sell Gallagher. I think the biggest problem facing Spurs right now is in build-up, moving from defence to midfield/attack. Maddison really made it slick but without him, we get huge pressure building on our defence. I think Gallagher would really help in this area.

100%. Another key component of our smooth buildup play is Romero/VDV at CB. They do it so well.

The drop off in our intensity without Sarr was really evident again today and was when he was out before too.

Gallagher would really address that need for energy in the middle without Sarr and would fit this system so well, it’s key to Ange system.

In fairness, PEH was very solid today. Really settled us when he came on.

A little bit of my soul would die seeing Phillips in a Spurs shirt. Would take Gallagher every day instead

Not getting ahead of myself on this one. As dumb as Boehly may be and may be willing to part ways with a player that they likely shouldn't be selling -- the cacophony of noise coming out of Chelsea supporters and out of Poch makes me think this isn't going to happen. I also just cannot see us meeting the valuation for this type of player. A midfielder + english premium + age + leadership certainly puts a hefty price tag. It would be a very bold move to sell to a rival club for them.

As an American and having more exposure to Kroenke (Arsenal), Fenway Sports (Liverpool), Boehly (Chelsea) and many others, the way American owners invest is completely different given their exposure to the salary cap and luxury tax. Boehly just paid $1bn for 2 baseball players for the Dodgers -- of which one of those contracts is severely backloaded (player will be paid well beyond the years he is playing in MLB). When you add FFP into play, Boehly has systematically applied this logic to the absurd amount of signings they have, making this less pressure to get rid of Gallagher.

While I would love this player, I am not getting ahead of myself.

He is quite the main man over there, but if he came to us there are others, when fit, ahead of him.
Dont believe he would even consider it

This is what I find hard to believe, that he would want to make the move. For one, like you said, he likely won't be starting once everyone else is fit (though you never know what could happen form wise) and the fact he's grown up a Chelsea fan, been with them since he was a kid and has been captain this season and played regularly. Seems strange to me.

Only angle I can see is he’s lowly paid and they’ve refused to meet his demands for a new contract.
If they’ve made it clear they’d rather sell and make pure profit, he may not feel Chelsea through & through any longer.

Yeah Chelsea are notorious for being stingy with wages :cautious:
