I’ve said it before, and others have said it, but I just don’t think this is very likely.

In what world do Chelsea sell a young, first team member, who’s arguably been in their top 3 players of the season, mid way through the season to a local rival they’re directly competing with? Surely even if you need the cash, you find a buyer elsewhere. At the start of the season they thought they’d be out of touching distance of us, and probably thought others would have taken his place, so selling would be less of an issue. Things are different now on so many levels.

It’d be madness for them to do it. I think he’d be a great buy. But they surely realise that too; which is why they won’t sell to us.

Would love it. But can’t see it.

40 million can be better spent on a number 6, and a little less. I’m not sold on him
I know some seem to think he'd be perfect and Ange is apparently a fan but I just don't see it myself.

Looks to be an ok player with a decent engine but there's surely better out there for that kind of money?
He runs about a lot but I'm not sure what his best position is because he doesn't seem to score much and isn't particularly creative or technical, so I'm not sure that he's just not a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none.

Feels like a lot of money to spend on someone who doesn't really improve the first 11.

Never coming to us. Chelsea would never allow it. There would be a fan revolt.
Close the thread.
I’m tired of this sort of response. They’ve sold players to City, United and Arsenal in the last 12-18 months. They’ll sell to us too.

I'd be so surprised if he decided to join us, he's playing every week for them and also captaining them, I just don't see him wanting to join us.

Unless they try to push him out the door for FFP reasons. Knowing that they’re actively trying to move him on may change the way he feels about staying.

Possibly, but I only want players to join us because they want to, not because they've been pushed out by their current club.

3 Midfield postions, and we have:

Sarr
Bissouma
Bentancur
Maddison
PEH
Skipp

Assuming Skipp and PEH are on their way out, I could see why this signing makes sense. But if everyone is fit and firing he needs to be happy with being 4th/5th choice.

Not as simple as being 4th choice etc. It's about squad rotation and depth. He'd get plenty game time. I think he would be better than 4th choice anyway. Far more consistent than Bissouma for example. And more of a goal threat than others (Maddison aside, who is attacking anyway).

But you throw in GLC to that picture and it does look cluttered.

A few Chelsea fans I know hate the idea of him leaving , 'our best player'. We'll have that thank you very much.

I remain skeptical though.

The Shed End: Pretty much split opinions as on here.

  • Pochettino on Gallagher’s future: “I don’t need to talk too much because it is not my decision. He is in the starting eleven in nearly all the games & is one of the captains. For me ,he is the type of player that the club needs to have.”
  • Poch has been playing political game since the beginning to keep Gallagher.
  • Ridiculous to sell him, if its a monetary thing move Reece instead.
  • Every squad / team needs balance and Conor provides that. He might not be the pick of the squad ability wise but he more than makes up for it in other areas and is still a very decent player to have as an option. Would have been unforgiveable to sell him to Spurs, just days after he wore the captains armband. Hope he stays for many seasons to come.
  • If Chelsea even give a seconds thought to selling Conor Bro', I will genuinely give up. This would prove that money is more important to the Owners than pure effort and loyalty and that would be the end for me.
  • Capology list Gallagher at £50K a week. The manager just selected him ahead of Enzo, who is on £180K a week.
  • Listening to offers according to The Athletic.
  • he is not in my opinion a player who has enough quality to be a starting player for us. I know he is at the moment - but that is due to the poor performance of the rest of the team and/or injuries to others.
  • I agree that he shouldn't be spearheading our midfield but we've already seen some matches where Gallagher is tailored for. Those scrappy battles where we need more presence in midfield.
  • see Gallagher doing well at either Spurs or Newcastle, so if that's the case may as well rinse them for him.
  • I'd like to keep him but if we want to eventually challenge for titles I don't know if he should be a starter, I think he's a great squad option though. If we got an offer £45m+ though it would be a tough one to turn down.
  • I am not is biggest fan but he absolutely has a role in the squad how stupid are these people doing to recruiting that they will sell someone who wants to be here FFS.
  • Selling Connor is another example of shortsightedness and actions that speak volumes more than their words by this club.
  • £40m Sounds a bit cheap to me seeing as Mount went for £55m plus add ons ... you'd think there would be more than a few clubs interested if that is all we are asking for ...
  • Absolutely f**king ridiculous to sell him, he wears his heart on his sleeve, loves the club and gives his all. Tell me on single other player still at the club who does that? please tell me. If he's sold for financial reasons ahead of some other dog turd players we have i'm done.

  • I think much needs to be looked into why Gallagher is the only player who's improved under Poch.
  • if we sell Conor just to please the books or to buy two 16 years old 'world prospects' from Brazil, I am done with these owners.
  • I really hope he stays, his improvement as he gains experience is one of the few things that make me hopeful for our future.
  • Do I think Gallagher is absolure top drawer or ever will be? Probably not. There are plenty of players I'd be looking to move on before Gallagher got to the top of that list.
  • If we sell Conor it just mean we can't no longer consider it ourselves as a big club. Not even mid table PL team sell their starter this days unless the player want to go or they can get a significant upgrade
  • So Poch sees him as untouchable (in the starting Xl) and the board see him as expendable. Both in the wrong for totally contrasting reasons
  • Was superb today I thought. Has a few ups and downs, but all part of the growing into his game though. (After EFL win against Newcastle on penalties)
  • His decision making is dreadful gets in promising positions then gets his wires crossed. He still had a really good game just need to think quicker play smarter
  • Anyone see similarities with Henderson? :cautious:
  • On the ball, he is one of the worst in the team. Praise his work rate all you like, but it's a glaring issue that cannot be ignored. A lot of our attacks break down when he is involved in the build up play because he doesn't have the ability to make a pass that can hurt teams.

  • We need workers that also have quality on the ball, unless we want to be stuck in mid table forever. Gallagher only looks like he is working harder than others because he runs all over the place. His positional play is actually pretty terrible. As much as we can admire Gallagher's work rate, everything I see about him screams mid table player. He's not doing anything more than what I see from teams fighting for their lives, like Luton's players.
  • I sat on the fence about him for a long time but he has completely won me over this season. When he doesn't play we really miss him IMO.
  • So far I see a lot of Kante in him, tbh. He works his socks off, he covers a lot of ground and recovers the ball high up many times. He’s not the technical wizard, but his role in stopping the opponents build up is something that has to be highlighted.
  • from my perspective there isn’t going to be room for Caicedo, Gallagher, Enzo at one time, never mind if Lavia is any good. I like Conor he is a work horse but every now and then he drops down a level. We will see.
  • He's not going to be in the side for very long if Pochettino doesn't wake up and use him where he's actually quite good. In no way, shape or form is he the quasi attacker Poch is trying to turn him into.
  • Bloke was sensational last night. Kante used to try to do what Connor did but didnt have the brain to create or distribute well, Gallagher does have that eye for goal and a pass.
  • We'd be mad to sell him, which is why I expect him off to Spuds in January
  • Gallagher has done nothing but give the ownership a reason that selling him would be a huge mistake. His professionalism and assertion to improve in areas that were weaknesses last season is nothing more than admirable. Not to mention he is legitimately Chelsea through and through

  • Nothing but praise for the lad - if he was foreign we'd probably be talking about him in a totally different light. However, in what has been an abysmal season, with the utmost respect, I do not think any team that has Gallagher as their stand out player is going to win much. Don't get me wrong, he is integral to our team right now and earned his place, but eventually I do think we need a higher caliber of player in possession. Happy to be wrong, but I've long had this impression of Conor.
  • I think some people just can't get over that he had a spell at Crystal palace and seem to think that's his level! He might not be Pirlo or Lampard or even Kante, but he's decent and right now, our midfield looks a whole lot worse when he isn't playing.
  • No, I just think he's crap on the ball and if we are going to progress playing this style of football, he can't be a regular starter. I'll say what I said yesterday, the top teams in the league have players in his position that do what he does without sacrificing their passing or their positional discipline. If Gallagher is going to start, then this slow build up play and passing it sideways needs to go and we need to play more direct.
  • Is it too soon to point out that Gallagher only has 3 goals and 5 assists in 64 appearances (40 starts) to date for Chelsea (3,638 minutes on the pitch)
  • Caicedo played well in the last two games, yet it's Gallagher who keeps getting all the plaudits off this forum. Elsewhere that's not the story, but on here Gallagher is by default playing better than everyone else. If Caicedo was doing exactly what Gallagher has been doing all season people would be calling him more of a flop than they already are.
  • Wouldn't say so. Everything is subjective of course but Gallagher is crushing Caicedo on the stats so far as well as the eye test.
  • Right now him and Palmer should be the first names on the team sheet on a match day.
  • I dont by any stretch think gallacher is a player who should be starting every game for us once we improve our squad in the future (fingers crossed we do) but right now we would be absolutely nuts to sell gallacher,
  • Hes critical for us because he's basically the only player who never gets injured.

  • Lost track how many times I’ve seen Gallagher receive the ball on the half turn and leave two opposition pressers in his dust. Gallagher this season has a better pass percentage, more progressive carries p90 which is even more impressive as Gallagher plays further forward, same amount of successive take ins p90 etc.
  • Oh and while we’re at it, Gallagher should be starting over both £100m+ signings currently
  • Spurs still interested in Conor, willing to include Hojbjerg as part of the deal to give us a defensive minded replacement:
  • They can piss off
  • Poch loves him. This wouldn’t happen under Pep, Klopp and Arteta. I really don’t understand why we are so keen to sell one of our better players (I know, FFP)
  • Really tired of this ownership they will be on thin ice if they sell Gallagher I suspect.
  • If Gallagher was a Brighton player we’d put in a £70million bid for him.
  • Seems to be mixed reporting amongst the journos. Others are saying Chelsea are open to listen to offers and spurs are interested.
  • Poor today (after losing to Wolves)
  • Yeah one of his worst games. It says a lot about our current situation that Gallagher had one of his worst games and yet was still one of our better players.
  • Poch had him playing as a lone f**king midfielder on a yellow card. I feel sorry for the lad.
  • Gallagher's having a good season in the context of a mid-table side, but with half of it gone he still has zero goals. Is he a player you want as a starter if you want to win titles ? Probably not. Doesn't seem much interest in him from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Bayern, Inter, Juventus, Man City etc etc etc, and there is a reason for that.
  • The question is, do you keep a mediocre "hard worker" when you can get £50m for him and buy someone who is above mediocre?

  • I don’t want Conor sold, I really don’t…but I do feel that he is replaceable.
  • I find it very bizarre how people can hold both stances of our attack being wasteful and also complain about Conor having no assists. The stats shows he is high in chance creation, off the top of my head I can remember 4 chances created by Connor only for Jackson to waste them all. 1 was just last game.
  • If they are stupid enough to sell Conor to Spurs of all teams then Clearlake will create an unmendable rift with the fans, let alone undermine Poch.
  • I wouldn't sell Tottenham leprosy. Unforgivable to even consider it
  • Chelsea through and through, from the academy, multiple time captain, arguably player of the season and doesn’t want to leave - and we consider selling him to Spurs to cover the cost of project players like Moreira and Gabriel? Do piss right off, some things are just completely unforgiveable
  • 40mill to Spurs. Better not be true. Our match going fans need to make their voices heard of this. Surely almost every Chelsea fan must be against such a deal.
  • That's cheap and to a fking w*nker that would never sell to us if his life depended on it. Just goes to show what a bunch of w*nkers these owners are if they do this.
  • I wouldn’t sell Tottenham a dose of the clap. Vile club vile fans there is no way Connor would go there
  • Selling to anyone would be stupid unless it was a monster offer. Selling to Spurs would be unforgivable. Gallagher is exactly the right sort of player for Postecoglu's style of play. We'd be handing them a perfect fit
  • Would be madness to give those north London Wan*ers anything other than the cold shoulder.
