I think right now Skipp is a decent squad option but Gallagher would be better. So if we could (not necessarily this window) sell Skipp for between £15m and £20m and replace him with Gallagher for around £30m that would be a good bit of business. We would be stronger for a relatively modest outlay. Those are the kind of gains we need to make to keep on improving.
I think what often happens in player threads is that criticism of a player goes way over the top (see also Hojbjerg, Emerson etc) but then the pendulum swings too far the other way when that player comes into form. The fact is the player was never as terrible as was being made out but that doesn’t mean they’re the long term solution either.

I don’t know if you were in the stadium but Skipp was really good in the first half. He kept the midfield alive while Bentancur struggled and his energy was prodigious.

I wasn't in the stadium buddy, so you see different stuff don't you. His energy was good yes, but he was too complacent for me. Hey ho.

Can we put this in big flashing lights somewhere? We need four club-trained guys in the CL IIRC or we “lose” squad places and I think next year we have just two - Sarr and Skipp. And I can’t remember if Sarr is confirmed.
Is this wrong? I have absolutely no idea why people keep talking about selling Skipp under these restrictions.

It depends how you feel about the progression of Devine/Donley and the inclusion of at least one of Alfie Whiteman or Brandon Austin.

Devine and Donley won’t affect things for a couple of years or so because of their age IIRC.
Adding one of the keepers would help, but if you’re selling Skipp then you’re down from a squad of 25 senior players to 23 (at best) in the CL. I think that would have a tangible effect on our chances. Imagine the sort of team we’d have been putting out with our injuries this year.

That's true, but they can still be registered for the purpose of satisfying club-trained homegrown requirements.
I get that but he deserves praise in my view from the South Stand. As my mate say, it’s my opinion and you’re entitled to it!

Why would selling one player reduce our squad size by 2?
They have to do something, don't they? It's as simple as they need a significant sale today or they're going to be getting a points deduction. Maybe they're willing to take the hit because they don't think Europe's on and they're confident they won't get relegated but that's a dangerous game.

Think @razor1981 was saying that the size of the breach affects the points so if it's say above £100m it will be worse than say £50m.
Other than Gallagher and Colwell I am not sure who can generate the pure profit they need, James is always injured and their other academy grads are small fry.
Even with a Gallagher sale of £40m they could be in for a big breach.

I really wouldn't worry at the moment. He's spent most of the season out with a horrific injury. Realistically it was always going to take him probably the second half of the season to get back up to speed. The fact he has looked like his old self in flashes is more then I was expecting tbh. Perspective and patience is needed with him i feel.

They’ve clearly been weighing up sales this window but don’t seem to have had anyone pay over the odds for anyone so far.
In terms of January, I can’t see CG moving now, the link which seems to be gathering steam is Broja moving so that could buy them some time. Doesn’t change CGs contract situation though

Media is constantly running stories on Chalobah, Broja and Gallagher. To me it seems Chelsea seem desperate and are putting out all the feelers to the media but can't get anyone to stump up the money they need for the plus £100m FFP they have to generate before June 30th.
Summer is too late as everyone will know they are in the shit and look to pay rock bottom prices, they need to do it today to save their arse. wouldn't be shocked at a Levy low bid in the 11th hour for Gallagher.
